wow its so scary when clutches blow i had one cpmpletely explode at 8800 i was scared so i alwats make sure my spare belt is on my guard becuase it was the only thing savin me from the debri comin my way besides the pepsi can thick guard

I'm sure this didn't happen on one ride. I guess it's been a while since your buddy last checked his clutches. He made it home probably because he didn't go wot. Otherwise, the belt could have gone over the top.

No it didnt have a starter ring on it...and the clutch looked fine b4 we left for the day cuz we put a belt on it in the morning. .

CONGRATS!!! You won first place! Talk about getting all you can out of that clutch! Second to the blown up one LOL!!!

a new belt?
was the belt slipping and he just kept going hard?
by the looks of it it looks like it was slipping high in the clutch meaning at WOT or close to it

always ran 8dn belts on it. it wasn't a new one we put on when this happened..it was one off my apex we were going to use for the day

IMO it's looks like that clutch has never been off the sled. I see alot of corrosion there. Maintenance..........maintenance....... people!

How many miles are on the sled?

sled has about 7600 miles on it.. clutches were tuned in around 3500miles..prolly the last time it was off the sled. wipe down with acetone every year and blown out..thats about it..

I got 8400 on mine and they still look good. Just took them off Saturday and I will go through them.

BTW, to all Viper owners. I have mentioned many times how I have run Heavy Hitters since the sled was new. They still look great and perform great. I bought a 2nd set of clutches from Vikerking last year for spares. They have about 1000 miles on them and are bone stock. For the heck of it I slapped them on and took it for a rip. They over revved to almost 9000 rpm's and it was 38 degrees out. So needless to say if it were colder it may have been worse. Same old problem how many years later......
