sled was running okay on Monday. Yesterday, we were leaving for a 4 day trip only my only available weekend. Get a mile from home and the sled starts to bog at around 7200 rpm, can't get higher than that unless it's from a stand still. Then it will climb to 81-82 and bog. Lift the back and run it, it revs up over the clutched rpm. Went back home and checked a few things (list below). Thought it was because it was too rich (it was 8 degrees C and raining - but it's never been an issue before) so we went out again later when it stopped raining and cooled off and it seemed a bit better. In two sections, I was able to get it to run up to 85 mph on speedo for a mile or so but then it would bog again. I ran out of gas after 65 miles (so roughly 6 mpg). I had extra so I was able to ride into town and get a ride back home from a guy at the gas station (nice guy to offer). Seems fine under 7000 rpm (not perfect, but no bog). It starts the same as it usually does.

Changed plugs twice - really wet
TPS tested fine last week using SideShow Bob's method
Disconnected TPS to see if that would make a difference - it didn't
Pulled powervalves and they are clean and adjusted (It's not a pull through feeling when it bogs - pull through stops it from revving higher, but it doesn't bog the way this does)
Carbs are clean (opened and cleaned when we got back home)
Reeds are not chipped, but could be a little weak (but not behaving like when the reeds went on my Dad's Venture a while back)
The inside of the airbox was wet with gas and it had dripped from the holes at the bottom
Pulled the harness from under the motor - it was fine but retaped while we had it out
Found a rub through on the TPS harness so we epoxied it - didn't help
Disconnected vacuum from fuel pump - no gas came out.
Removed fuel pump and disassembled. Diaphragm is sealed and looks fine.

So I'm not sure where to go from here. It hasn't been quite right for the last 2 seasons but never this bad.

We thought the fuel pump was dumping fuel into the crank, but it's not. Could the pump still be faulty? It starts normally, so I would think that the pump can't be filling the crank.

Could it be the stator? I'm not having issues with lights, gauges or warmers.

I haven't tried disconnecting the TORS yet because the sled runs above idle and I don't think TORS would let it.

Could it be that it's time to get a new 4-stroke? I'm not quite ready for that yet!

All the problems I had which are similar to yours turned out to be a faulty tps. I have a stator, voltage regulator and fuel pump for sale coincidentally of one of those turns out to be your issue

The tors is fauly at the carbs i belive.simply bypass it and try.Our it could be the tps as jminor has replyed.

On my 98 that does not have a throttle positiong sensor i replaced cdi, servo moter and cleaned up all the valves, still had a bog after 7 thou!

I got fed up and warmed the sled up outside on a stand. The servo would pull the cables at low idle but not at high revs!Bypassed the throttle override and it stated pulling the cables like it should.

It sounds great now on the stand and around the yard but have not gone for a ride yet.

So i belive the feedback to the cdi is faulty when one or the other switches on the carb starts to fail causeing no signal to the servo moter other than the low idle check and the startup cycle.

I see you checked/cleaned the carbs but did you check the carb inlet or "top hat" filters behind the needle and seats? Fuel starvation late into a run plus running low on fuel perhaps sucking up consentrated crud from the bottom of the tank adding to the blockage?

Just thinking out loud.

After checking everything else out, I swapped out the carbs with a spare set from a sled with low miles (a suggestion from a mechanic friend). He suggested that carbs and jets can actually wear from the fuel going through them. He has seen this before in a Honda quad. My sled has a lot of mileage so it made sense. Plus I didn't have anything else to try.

So even though these were jetted richer, my sled ran perfect. Since these carbs had a TPS, I decided to remove it and try the one from my set to see if it was faulty. Sled still ran fine. I haven't switched the tors but I don't think it would behave that way. My sled has been burning more and more fuel over the last few years. The warm wet weather yesterday compounded the problem. Now we'll try to at least get 2 days of riding. I've ordered the right jets for the replacement carbs.

I got 14, 15, and 16 mpg with it in the last two days. I've never seen those numbers before! That's imperial gallons (4.5 litres per gallon). It's finally running like an SRX should.

Not exactly sure yet. Once it ran, we tried to make the most of the time we had left to ride. I plan to take the carbs apart and investigate. I can risk it since I don't have to put them back in!

never bothered to check. It ran great after replacing the carbs so I just rode it until I got my Venture 2 weeks after and my SRX has been parked since. It makes sense that it would be worn needle and seat, as KneeDown mentioned, but I don't know for sure.
