Can anyone explain what exacly the update was and what it consisted of?.... I have spent hours studying the schematics of many 700 Yamis trying to figure out what was failing thus causing a rough running engine and dim headlites with gauges flickering...
All I can come up with is a short cct, which loads the stator to the point of causing poor voltage for ignition...
It would be valuable to know what was addressed by Yamaha since so many are having or had such problems...
thanks...

eric, just got done doing some testing on mine and the stator is shot. got a buddy with the same sled and a tester and we did them both, mine is shot. the sled still runs but i unplugged both headlights and hit the dimmer swith and it was fine , then i proceeded to try one bulb at a time in each socket and fine, then i tried two bulbs and not fine. it was about half a bright as the dims would be. we then tested the stator and it is nfg. one of the three circuts is open.

we also tested the rew relay and the load control relay both are fine. what the new relay does is makes it impossible for both the high and low to come on when starting, the old one would allow both to come on for a split second and rob power from the ignition system.

a bad stator will do it... the voltage had to be plummiting to cause the engine to run poorly.... all else that would tear voltage down like that is a short cct.... glad you found the problem..
I've now read of many stators going bad, I hope I don't ever see that problem...
has anyone tried rewinding the own stators?.. I can't imagine Yamaha letting them go even reasonably priced....
If you're ordering a stator, let me know and we'll arrange the same...

sure not wanting to buy a new stator, not sure of the canadian price but the states price is $205. not cool. has anybody rewound a stator and had much luck? i knew a guy who would rewind his rm125 stator, it may last 3 weeks ot 1 week. not very reliable. any professional shops do this, if not somebody should get on it and make a fortune. TJ, i will let you know if i order one from yamaha, but kinda want to buy a good used one. btw, i sent you interoffice mail the other day, you may have it today.
