Has anyone ever experienced their hyfax wearing only on one side?? I've got 200 miles on my newly longtracked Viper and the right side hyfax is worn down big time, especially towards the front. Also, when the sled is sitting on the garage floor it seems like there is a slight tilt to the sled as well, any ideas?

Im dealing with this right now, The stock 5.125 inch wheels on the Yamaha 's just don't cut it. You need to buy 5.35 inch wheels all 6 of them(kimpex part # 298871) which includes the 2 to replace on the rear cross shaft (they are pressed on the shaft)Viper_Jim said:Has anyone ever experienced their hyfax wearing only on one side?? I am packing extra Lithium grease into the 6 Kimpex 5.35 inch wheels I have to put on my SRX tomorrow.
The natural geometry of the skid causes it to sit slightly on a tilt at the rear. No really getting around it, Just the nature of the beast. If you sit on the sled, It will come down some.
Check your track alignment, its the only answer I could give you on uneven wear. The left side will tend to wear the most since that side is facing the road (often bare).

If you get the 5.35 inch wheels, use the stock bushings for the front four wheels from your sled

How tight are you runningt he track?
The only time I've had an issue on our 136" venture was when the track was too tight. The worst part was that the track was tightened too much by the local repair guy. Assuming that he ran the track at the proper tension was a mistake.

The track doesn't seem to be too tight, I run anti-ratchet drivers, I find it weird that I only have wear on one side though.
The larger wheels could work I suppose but before I extended the skid I never had an issue. Actually, when I removed the skid at 9000km the stock hyfax were still in great shape.

Might have to mount an extra shaft or wheel kits to fill in the void for long tracking it

I've also thought about this. However, I'm not sure where to mount the extra wheels and I still find it mysterious that I'm only getting wear on one side. Would the limiter straps have anything to do with this?

Make sure your limiter straps are adjusted evenly. Is there some holes already pre-drilled to mount a cross shaft with wheels?

The factory 136" sleds do have more wheels than the 121" vmaxes.
I'm running the stock sized wheels and they seem fine.

I'm pretty sure that the only holes that are pre-drilled are located just in front of the lower transfer rod mounts.
I'll try to explain this the best I can also, one of the u-shaped holders on the lower shaft that the limiter straps are attached to is broken off, so it is a little difficult to adjust them the same because one is able to have a little more slack.

I'm running a 121" stretched to a 144" with the skid relocated now with only the stock setup as far as the wheels go

just repaired mine. The bolt on the cross shaft snapped on mine..caught it early as I always inspect the skid every week in the garage.Even with the 5.35 wheels and 7.5 rear wheels and marginal wheels at the front..my hyfax only wears down between the marginal wheels and the first outside idler wheels up front. The rest of my hyfax is still like new after a couple seasons.

I read about your fix here in another thread, certainly is unique to see it brake there. The cross shaft is still in great shape on mine, but one of those loopes that holds down the strap broke on mine.
I've definitely got to make some kind of drastic change because I'm seeing some substantial wear and only 200 mines on them!

If one of those loops were broken, would it be putting all the pressure on your hyfax for the side it's broken on?

All the pressure seems to be on the side with the loop that isn't broken actually

them loops are just guides for the strap..they don't do any pulling or anything.Just noticed tonight one of my loops on the 600 is broken..just a little tack weld needed to fix.

If I tighten up the limiter straps a little will this take some of the pressure off the front part of the skid? It seems like this is where most of the heavy wear is happening. Also, where do you purchase the extra wheel kits? Is this a OEM add on?

Yes if you pull up the limiters it will take pressure off the front of the rails.Check the front shocks to to see if they are starting to sag as well. This will add to the pressure on the rails because the front end will be lower.

I will try pulling up the limiters, I have them as loose as they can possibly go right now. As for front end sag, I installed a complete brand new front end with all OEM Mtn Viper parts, therefore the front end is actually raised up significantly higher than it originally was (I should note that all the hyfax wear occured before I narrowed the ski stance with the new parts).
