hey guys i need to replace a bent steering shaft this weekend and by doing a little search, i found that i will need to remove the motor to get to the lower cotter pin. the only snowmobile experience i have is removing the airbox and carbs, and pipes and silencer, and exhaust valves. is this too big a job for a novice wrench?

a step by step process would be ideal, but not necessary. what will i need to do to get the engine out? any special tools? thanks for what ever input you have.

take pipe off, take airbox off, drain coolent, shut off fuel, remove fuel lines from carbs, remove oil line from carbs, set carbs off to side. Then remove oil lines from engine, and pinch off the main oil line so your oil tank doesn't empty. vice grips usually do me fine. loosen motor mounts, yank it out. never pulled an srx engine, but pulled many from polaris's and cats, have done them all the same way. not too bad, just take your time

You will have to take it off. When you reinstall the engine you will have to align the clutches also. Easy job if you have the tools or can find someone close to you with them. Be sure to bleed the coolant system real good also when you put it back together.
