what are my options for a better headlight bulb on a 99 vmax 700. sled is in VT, i think its a H4?? when my wife is following me i can barely see her with the low beam on, she says it sucks!

It is an H4. silverstars work OK, but don't last as long as they should.
PIAA's are good too, better longevity than silverstars.
I've been thinking of doing an HID conversion, and since my venture has a battery, I shouldn't run into the issues that other have had on Vmaxes of the same kind, without electric start.

i would suggest the xenon blue lamps with a higher wattage and install a led rear tail lamp bulb. had this in my sx500r and it was always good to see in the dark. still run the same bulbs in my war and et.

I put LED tail lights in and noticed my headlights got brighter, or at least the people I've been riding with noticed it. I've had a couple people ask me about it. I also noticed and appreciated that my headlights no longer dim when I use the brakes.
dual headlight
I put a 00' dual headlight/gauge pod "bigger gauges".....I used the 00' wiring harness BUT to this day it dims the lights alittle??? Although it didnt improve the visibility at night, it looks cool.
pic my 99 sx which is still for sale....

Where can you get this battery?BETHEVIPER said:hid with a snowbungy battery for startup, they use less power to run and are way briter.
I ran into this problem when I had my '95 Vmax. The two things that helped me the most are a Philips X-treme Power headlight bulb and pulling the flywheel off and cleaning the rust/dirt off the stator & flywheel. You may not be generating the current that you should if your stator/flywheel are dirty.
I am running a pair of the Philips X-treme Power bulbs in my '01 SRX now and I like them a lot. Don't buy any of the blue coated bulbs unless it is a very light blue. The coating makes the light output whiter but also dimmer.

My problem with rear led bulb is that they put out no heat and then the tail light is covered in snow.....this led to my wife hitting me cause she didnt see my brake light.
cover the rear lens with pam or another no-stick cooking spray.works great. when i forget, i just clean it every stop. heck i have to clean it with 1157 bulb in there even on my rx if there is a lot of powder on the trail.

Im against the LED tail light. My buddy and i almost had a bad tangle because his tail light was covered in snow, and mine was always covered in snow too. After that night and near miss we both went back to regular bulbs. IMO, SAFETY is the most important part of this sport and IMO LED tail lights are not safe!
Just wipe off the lens at stops.

I wipe the lens off whenever I stop. But I also have a tunnel extension and I've noticed it doesn't get fully covered with snow. But I'll def try the PAM trick.

I went to the LED tail light in back to gain heat from the passenger handwarmers, and to stop the dimming under brakes. My headlight is still dimmer than it should be though.
I've got a feeling that the stator is dirty/ rusty on my 97 though. I hear it's fairly common on these, but I have yet to bother with pulling the pipe off, then taking the engine case / cover off and cleaning it. I ride during the day with the venture, and take the xc out at night when the SO does not ride along.
I have no issues with the tail light getting covered in snow and not letting the LED light through. Maybe it's the way the tail light is on the 2 up , and maybe it's because some LEDs are better than other brands. Mine's very bright when the brake is on, and the running light is more visible than the stock incandescent.

Where is the best place to get these led bulbs. I like the ones that rotate when the brakes are applied also, very cool.

Dennis Kirk, but the ones that rotate are not as good of quality.
Mine was like 18 dollars.

I got mine on Ebay, but can't find the link now, it was on this site. I paid $13 each including shipping. They don't spin though...
You need to get a bulb that has multiple SMT (or SMD) LEDs on them. Those a the flat chip style LED and are WAY brighter than your typical led.
These are the ones I have and I like them a lot so far.
