I would like to trail port my 98 srx700. I live in Manitoba Canada and only have easy access to the following two fuel grades:
1) 91 Octane (r+m/2) No Ethanol (Shell, Esso)
2) 94 Octane (r+m/2) 10%+ Ethanol (Petro-Canada)

My Owner's manual specifies the first grade as the minimum requirement. I try to keep away from ethanol blended fuels. My SRX currently produces between 135-140 H.P. I would like to do port and head work to be in the 150-155 H.P. range. Would this be possible with 91 Octane fuel?

you can still trail port it, but youll need to stay on the conservative side as to your head set up.

Good to see you posting mrviper700. Best wishes and prayers for your health. Would a trail port and some conservative head work put my sled in the 150+ H.P. range? Are you still doing work? I am taking my top end apart at the end of march for some new pistons (11 000 miles on the originals and still beating the f7's). Figure it would be a good time to port the cylinders and maybe shave the heads. Everything is stock on the sled except for clutching, gearing, and track. Reliability is my utmost concern since I take this sled on a bunch of long trail rides. I'd be willing to change the carb jetting to match the port work and heads, but I want to run the stock exhaust, airbox, and ignition. Thanks for the reply.

you can still run the stock pipes, ignition, carbs, etc, after a trail port. you would still be fine for 91 oct after porting, if the heads aren't too tightly cut. you can setup the heads to be like '00-'02 heads and you would be fine for 91-93 oct. i do port work and head work as well.

Sounds good, I just wanted to make sure I could still get around 150 HP on 91 Octane. I feel like that is the minimum gain I would need to see, to make it worth while in both time and money.
