Hi everyone, This is my first post and I just wanted to say this is a super informative site and has tonnes of awesome info on Yammy sleds.
I have recently picked up a 99 VMAX SX 700 triple. I love the sled, its has plent of power for what I need, but has the one common issue that these sleds are know for, The suspenision just plain SUCKS!!!!!
I have been doing a lot of reading on this site and I am going to pick up either a Polaris EDGE or Ski-Doo SC-10 -2 or 3 rear suspension skid and fit it into my
sled for a much better ride. From what I have read it is a good idea to pick up a set of 02 viper front shocks and springs to give me more travel in the front.
There are a few things I am unclear about and I just wanted to ask for some info. I have read that if the viper shocks are used on an sx 700 that some mods would have to be done with regard to mounting brackets and they are not a direct bolt in. Could some one elaborate on this.
I also have the ski doo front shocks from an 02 mxz available to me. They look they would bolt right into my vmax. they measure 17 inchs from center to center on the bolt holes, not sure what the measurements of the vipers are? Anyone know whether this would work properly, giving me the proper ride height and the correct amout of travel? I know I need to get the longer radius rods out of a newer vmax as well for proper suspension geometry
The other thing I was wondering was if I raised the front end up, I gather I would need a set of drop brackets for the rear bar on the back of the skid.
Would u not need to drop the front bar of the skid down the same amound as the rear bar to maintain correct ski pressure??
Thanks in Advance
Allen

Edge all the way and if you go to jbshocks.com you'll be able to find dimensions to mount it in your sled.If you found a Doo skid make sure its a sc-10 3
I would think that since you're going to a longer travel rear skid, you wouldn't need drop brackets as the extra travel would do the rising that the drop brackets would. Just guessing based on what I've read. I didn't use drop brackets when I Viperized my SRX.

I thought the drop brackets were used to set proper ski pressure if u long travelled the front and rear suspension together.
I took a look at the ski doo mx-z front shock vs the viper shock and the viper shock needs some work to make it fit into the sx or srx chassis, but the skidoo one measures 17" center to center on the bolt holes and will bolt directly in.
would this work properly on my sled? What I mean is would it ride the same and are the mx-z's and sx's comprable in weight that the front ride height would be fairly close?
Thanks

See, now I thought you needed the drop brackets if you were not long traveling the front susp. I thought the brackets tipped the rear skid up in the rear which would add ski pressure. Adding travel would do the same thing as adding drop brackets I assume.
As for the ski-doo shocks, if the extended and compressed length is the same, the only thing keeping them from working would be the mounting style (i.e. clevis vs eye bolt) and perhaps shock body O.D.
The spring would dictate ride height usually indicated by coil wire O.D. and installed height.
At least that's my take.

If you longtravel both the front and back, you shouldn't need drop brackets. Yes, the srx and the viper shocks are different. The viper bulkhead is different. the spacing on the radius rods is wider on the viper bulkhead and the viper stabelizer is wider to. In my opinion, I think putting a viper bulkhead on your srx tunnel is the best way to long travel it, it will give you the wider ski stance. However, that is a big project and you might not want to go through all that extra work. There are a ton of people on here who have long travelled them without going that route that are really happy with the results. If the skidoo shocks fit your top mounting location, than I don't see any reason not to do it that way. As for the rear skid, i have an sc10iii skid and I think it is amazing, it's just like driving down the highway in my dodge truck.

I was pretty sure I read a post a while back that stated if u put an sc10-3 or edge skid into an SRX and left the front suspension stock , drop brackets were not needed. However, if u put viper shocks in the front the drop brackets were needed to increase ski pressure. I will try to find the post and place a link to it. But if you think about it , that really doesn't make any sense, cause if u already had a long travel skid in the rear and then you went and put the longer shocks in the front, that would only increase ski pressure and adding drop brackets would only add more uneeded ski pressure.
I think im so confused right about now??????
As far as the radius rods go , I understand that the viper ones dont fit the sx or srx chassis with out modification. The rods to get would be from a 2002 and up vmax or venture which are longer that the 99 sx and srx and would bolt into mine giving it a wider ski stance
With regards to using the ski doo front shocks they measure 17" from center to center which i believe is the same length as the viper shock. They will bolt right in with out any further mods. Advertised dry weight on an 02 MX-Z 800 is 475lbs and the 99 SX 700 is 498lbs. So a negligble difference in weight, so the SX should sit very close to the same ride height as the Ski doo which should be perfect especially if using an SC10-3 skid.
Can anyone add anything to this or steer me in the right direction ? I think I have most of the information I need , just unsure a bout a few of these things.
One last thing, I haven't been able to find an EDGE skid so I will likely get an SC10-3. How can u tell the difference between an SC10-2 an SC10-3 skid?
I know they have stickers on them, but what if the stickers are gone or changed?? is there any thing physicaly different that easily identifies one from the other???
Thanks
Allen

For the front end.... Use a set of Viper or SXR shocks, get the bushing for those shocks from a dealer, they were about 7 or 8 bucks, take the old mounting brackets off and put the bushings in the holes bulkhead, the bushings will pretty much slide in if you spay them with some WD-40. Also use SXR radius rods instead of Viper radius rods and you won't have to replace the bulkhead with a Viper bulkhead. The SXR rods are longer, you can replace the sway bar or just use a longer bolt in the link with some washers to take up the difference.

Maybe if I had written what I ment I wouldn't have added to the confusion.
I ment to say the drop brackets would tip the rear bumper up because the rear of the skid would be tipped DOWN (my mistake), so... Long traveling the rear (raising the rear) would act like drop brackets so I'd guess they aren't needed.

I think Venture are the one's you want but your spindles are still short compared to SXR/Viper. This is my set up and I struggle a little with ski pressure but I like lite preload throughout. You'll need to change the sway bar or shim the dog bones. I made some with longer bolts.

Not a clue about where your SX top shock mount is but if it's like my SRX, the Viper shock needs to be mounted about an inch above the top top corner of the bulkhead I'd guess about 2 3/4" straight above (through the belly pan) from where they are now to avoid spring binding, I think.

Not sure if I was any help above but I think you're on the right track.
I'd really like to try an extra-10 in mine and may do so if I get a wild hair one of these days. Yeah, right.
-wider is better- IMO
Scott - Be The Viper - was a real help to me

I believe the 3 has a longer rear arm, but I'm not sure by how much.Allen Vos said:I was pretty sure I read a post a while back that stated if u put an sc10-3 or edge skid into an SRX and left the front suspension stock , drop brackets were not needed. Good find today guys, picked up a complete rear EDGE suspension skid
out of a 2003 Polaris 500 Classic,it has the Fox shocks on it and I even got the original rear drop brackets off the tunnel. Should be everything I need to long travel the rear.
Does anyone know the length of the radius rods I need to widen my ski stance once I long travel the front???
Thanks
