Oil check valve plugged??

I beileve I have a plugged oil check valve. I have oil all over under the airbox and even coming out from under seat and under the tunnel.

So I can switch out my check valve, that's not a problem (if my dealer ever gets the part in). I am worried about how much I ran it without any oil. I had switched out my oil pump so I ran premix with my first full tank of gas at 50:1. I burned up 6 gals and then filled the tank again. So now I am at a ratio of 100:1. During that first 6 gals, my oil consumption was good and I didn't notice any under the airbox. Since then I have burned probably 7-8 gals and put on 50+ miles on the sled.

I was down maybe a pint of oil in the reservoir, but by the looks of the mess I have I would assume that a pint leaked out.

So is there anything I should do before I run this thing again?

First plug on my left looks okay, second (middle) looks a little lean, and third (my right) is definitely too lean. What were temps, altitude and riding conditions like?

Keep in mind that these plugs are from a real lean oil setup. From my initial post, based on how much oil was inside the engine compartment I am not sure any oil was going into the carbs. So the only oil it was getting was from my previous tank of premix. I am sure the gas/oil ratio was 100:1 or 110:1.


Temps were 9 deg F, altitude is approx. 1800ft., and conditions were on real hard packed ditches. Almost icelike.

This is my setup with SLP pipes: Main Jets are 162.5, pilots 47.5, JN at 4.0, fuel screw at 1 3/4.
 
if you didn't have ANY OIL....... the motor would NOT LAST !! You could probably run about TEN MINUTES without oil and THATS IT !!! The temperatures would get SO HIGH ,, the pistons would seize in the cylinders form the heat !!! Synthetic oil can run at 100 or 110 to 1 BUT,, wouldn't you rather have TOO MUCH OIL ( cleans the exhaust ) or too little oil.. (destroys the engine ) . What would you rather have???

I agree with you. I am fixing the oil problem so this won't happen again. And I will run pre-mix until I know for sure I am getting oil through the fuel pump.

So far there isn't any sign of engine failure. No noise, pinging, anything like that.

I was just trying to get opinioins on whether I should tear it down and replace crank seals, piston, rings. etc. Is there anything that I can look for to know if I have damaged the engine.
 
From what I can see that thing was definitely getting some oil. No way you could go 50 miles without oil in the fuel mixture. I don't see any evidence of melted pistons or ring damage. I would check through the exhaust ports for piston scuffing and any debris. As long as it appears clean, I would run it but keep a close eye on it for a while. You may have shortened the life of the top-end, but I would run it.

On the other hand you could tear it down and visually inspect everything and measure all of the tolerances if you wanted to be sure. If I was going to depend on this sled for long rides in remote areas, I would probably opt for this option.
 
Boy do I feel stupid. I found the source of my oil leak. It is from the extra quart I keep in the compartment at the rear of the seat. The cap broke from the bumpy riding and leaked out all over. The oil ran down under the seat and all the way forward into the engine compartment.

I replaced my oil check valve and the oil hoses from the tank to the fuel pump. When I was putting my tools away, I decided to put the belt removal tool into the seat compartment and voila there was a mess of oil in there.

Lesson Learned!!
