Hi all, already installed an EDGE suspension in my 99 VMAX SX and want to Long travel the front as well. Everyone seems to use viper shocks, but they are not a direct fit on the SX. some brackets need to be changed to make them fit properly. I have a pair of front shocks and springs here from an 02 Ski doo MX-Z which measure 17" from center to center on the bolt holes, which I believe is the same length as the Viper shocks. They also look like they will bolt directly in as well. Is there any reason why I could not use these shocks on my SX?????
Thanks

I think they would be a little too long unless you put longer radius rods on. Those shocks will push down so much you will end up narrowing your stance. I don't know how handy you are with fabricating but if you are you could always lengthen your radius rods and they would work.

I was actualy thinking of lengthing my radius rods, just dont know how much to lengthen them?????? I have a couple bent ones I got from the polaris I got the skid from. Besides a bit of work with the cut off saw and welder would be cheaper and less hassle then trying to get the right radius rods.
The radius rods would need to be changed doing viper shocks any ways, wouldn't they???
Does anyone have any measurements I could get for what to extend my radius rods to????
Thanks

If you simply drop the skis by extending the radius rods you will develop bump steer at some point. Also the sway bar needs to be considered.
The length of the radius rods is simply a geometry equation. Once you know the increase in shock length, you can simply do the math.

Care to elaborate on the mathematical equation for figuring out the length of the radius rods????? I will have to measure my original shocks to get the length, but the ones I want to put in are for sure 17" long. I will measure my stock one and report back tomorrow.
Thanks

I have correct viper front shocks, bushings to press in the bulkead and also sell a 2in widening kit that will widen out all of your rods as well as your sway bar. All exentions mount tward the center of sled and are unseen when installed. front shocks are off a 03 viper

Ok, so I measured the factory shock on my sx fully extended @ 13.5" from center to center on the mounting holes. If I use a set of 17" long shocks, thats a difference of 3.5" in length.
Knowing this, how much longer do I need to make my radius rods???
If there is mathematical formula for this ??? it would be nice to have
I could also get a set of 18" long shocks , but then I would likely have to lengthen the radius rods some more???
At what point do you have to stop as ski stance would get really wide as well???
Thanks

If you dont mind me asking what are the measurements on the viper shocks you have from center to center of the mounting holes??
Does the widening kit give an over all 2" width on ski stance as well or is it 4"??? Im assuming it only ads 1" per side????
