I am looking at a used reverse off a 600MM it has 8 tooth drivers and is geared at 19/39. I believe that I have 22/38 and 9tooth drivers all stock. Do I need to change the gears or will this combination work? I am thinking I will over rev. What should I run? Thanks Scott

i went to 8 tooth once and didnt regear, it dont change clutching, my rpms were not bad but going to that smaller drive changes gearing alot and you will loose alot of top end. if your not going to use a tall lug track you dont need to use the smaller drives. bending the track around that smaller drive will rob some power and is also alot easier to make the track jump. If you have anything over a 1.25 track then you will need to use the smaller drives so the lugs dont hit the front cooler. the reason the previouse owner had diffrent gearing is to try to get back some top end.

I don't want to switch to the 8 tooth drivers. I want to use the gears that came with the reverse chaincase that had 8 tooth. Other wise if I have to replace the gears the cost is not a good deal. New gears are $150-$180 depending on site. I know I can get used ones that's why I am wondering what is recommended that I use. So that way if I need to get different ones I can get them before I do the swap.

Before I longtracked my Viper I geared down one tooth on the top gear for more low end, I found it was fine when your speed was up but when over reved when going at slower speeds.

The gear setup from the MM is pretty aggressive, good for hill climbing with a big lug track...lots of low end and less high end. If you want to retain your current ratio, you will need to go with a 22t or even a 21t gear...trail friendly with a 1.25 or less track. If you plan on using your existing 22t gear you will have to make sure that the gear sets and chains are compatible...HYVO vs. 13w and 68L vs. 70L. What I would do is buy a 21t gear for the type of gear assembly your planning to buy (HYVO/13W...), which would allow you to keep the 68t chain as well. You can get gears of this site for low$.
