stock 99 vmax 500sx; 8ab's w/2.4 in both holes; advantage 45/39; stock springs.

engages 3800, acts lazy to 6500-7000 then takes off and holds 7500 rpms upto 80mph. I was thinking of taking the 2.4 out of the 1st hole and adding two engagement shims. I'm a little concerned that helix may be a bit too much though. Other thoughts?

I didn't spend much time tuning mine last year, I will as soon as I get it out. I ran stock weights with a 2mm shim in the primary and a 48 42 wrapped at 80. It runs the best at 7800 in really good hard pack it will run 100 to 101 on the gun. I think it has a little better acceration in it with some tuning. 8AB's may be a little stiff for it down low I tried some 8DF's as they are and they were a little heavy but it it pulled a straight 7600 all the way out.

Run the inner hole empty with a .8 outer. Wrap the secondary to 80 or 90. It will get you close. That 45/39 advant-edge is a lot of helix for a 500 to pull.

yeah I'm finding that out turk. I took out the 2.4 inner and left the 2.4 outer w/secdnry wrapped 70 and added 3 engagemnt shims. doing better on holeshot. comes in kind of easy and builds steadily. should be good for loose snow starts. finish angle and 2.4 outer seems "bang on"; turning 77-7800 and creeping towards 7900 at abt 85mph. don't think I'll be able to clutch around that 45 start angle though. damn funky cut. Thot abt going back to the stock helix but I love the midrange pull of this helix w/8ab's. Thanks guys.

45 at the start is probably too much with 8AB remember the 500's that came with them had 41's or 39's behind them.
