I know the question has been beat to death, been searching for a week and found lots of info, but what is the best all around skid upgrade for an SRX? as far as least amount of top speed loss, weight reduction, handling, ride quality, and weight transfer? I am leaning toward a mono, but they are pricey, my next choice i guess would be a sc10 3. what about a arctic scrap?

I have my skid set up pretty good, but the wifes SXR just rides so much better, and would like to not feel like a train ran me over after a 150 mile day. Had the sled up to 113 on gps on saturday in 40 degree weather, so I don't want to lose all of that either.

Mono skid -- in the 136' version (Attak/ LTX version). Be sure to re-spring/ re-valve the shock to your weight and exact riding style.

The Mono skid is smooth as silk. I know -- I have on on my Attak. It is also a very fast skid -- Apex's/ Attaks with the Mono skid consistently beat identical sleds with other skids. The skid just transfers right. And people may doubt me on this one, but the Mono skid was originally designed to be a Snow-X skid. That's a fact.

But what I like the best about the mono is how easily it is to dial it in. Once you have your pre-load and sag figured out, your only things ledft to dial in are your limiter straps and transfer rod. The ono skid likes to transfer a lot, but by sucking in the limiter and adjusting out the transfer rod, you can effectively make that skid perform like a slot car. Obviously this is in conjunction with your front shock tuning.

I'm a loyal fan of the Mono and will be until I ride something I like better. I've tried others and I still like the Mono.

Funny everyone says you have to revalve and re spring the mono, aren't all the sleds they come in a lot heavier than the SRX? I really would like to stay with a 121" if possible. what kind of travel do the mono's have? and what is the weight difference?

Call Bruce at B-Line Control over in Lindstrom MN. He is a former Yamaha Sno-cross suspsension tech that now has his own business setting up anyones sno-cross, trail, drag, etc. sled. He can give you the best advice on what you should do to meet your requirements and then he can build you a custom set of shocks or rebuild your current shocks to fit the system.

Well sled weight is part if it, but the rear end isn't the heavy part on the 4 stroke sleds the Mono came on. The rider's weight generally is the dominant source of downforce on the shock. The 121" versions of the Mono (Gt came with Ohlins EC, SE and plain version came with KYB rebuildables) were notoriuosly undersprung. I think they came with like a 4.1 kg rear psring on the shock. This allowed for a poor ride if anyone heavier than about 140 pounds got on there. Most re-spring to about a 6.1 to 6.5 kg spring. Extra large gentlemen even go with the 7.1 (big boy) spring. The revalving is also nice because Yamaha had the shock builders install a very pluch valve stack on there that did not inspire much confidence stock. Like an old cushy Cadillac on a Nascar course. Most have a reputable shock rebuilder install a progressive valve stack in the shock for a firmer/ more compliant ride. The Mono skid leaves room for a lot of travel. Every version was limited by the shock installed on there -- even the Ohlins shocks had less travel than the Mono skid could have allowed for. It is a true long, long travel suspension.

I was in your shoes last fall. I chose a mono from bender and love it. no loss in top speed and great transfer. my back was never sore and i put 1800 miles on that skid no problems

my summer project is going to be a monoskid, plan to get it setup and still run the grass drags i hope it works...
i like to use my sled as much as i can but the bumps in the trails i love to hammer but the pro action doesnt... and i feel like its dangerous to out ride the skid

I think I will go with the Mono, if I can find one for a reasonable price. What shock should be used? I am 250lbs with gear, and have seen that they are sprung soft. RA shock or kyb, ohlins? what needs to be done with the front, I have a 98 with Ohlins set up.
