I have a 03 viper and was wondering if I should get some reed spacers for it. I was wondering if it makes a difference with them. I already have vforce 2 reeds in it.

Lots of info on this if you do a search, but the short answer is...They are not needed on the Vipers or SRXs...its a "Red Head" thing.

By unblocking the rear boost port

I don't know yamahas reasoning. I do know that more yamahas, other than the red head triples, that suffer from this poor design......500/600 twin vmax sleds and banshees are more that I know of. I think even their rz350 bike engine as well and possibly the rd250 and rd350 bike engines.

I had spacers on mine with boyesen reeds. After reading up on them on here I took them out and it is better without the spacers. The spacers actually hurt the performance.

"The reed cage on the MM/SX(r) blocks off the Intake port feeding the rear of the cylinder, resulting in restricted fuel flow. Spacing out the reed cages gives the air and fuel a much straighter path to this rear port. By smoothing out the fuel flow you gain 3hp at low/mid and 1hp top end, plus the steady slow speed burble at low end is nearly eliminated, resulting in improved throttle response. Kit comes complete with longer bolts, 6 OEM gaskets, and spacers. Works great with V-Force and Carbon Tech reeds."
This is what mountain performance claims on their website.

I only did it because when I smashed up the sled it put the carbs through the air box. I honestly don't know if it helped any except save a bit of weight and make the carbs easier to take off and service.
