Well, my 02 srx with 8900 miles finally let me down : (
Starting hearing a loud clicking noise and sled would hardly move. Discovered that when I rotated my secondary clutch by hand, it would skip. We discovered the teet on the inside of the secondary that mate with the jack shaft splines had worn out. I replaced the secondary with a used one for 200.00 and problem flxed, I thought. : ) Sled would move but still loud skipping, and we discovered the drive shaft bearing had grenaded in the chain case. It was original. I always thought only the speed side were notarious for failing. DOH. should have replaced.
Question - these problems related ya think? anyone experience their secondary clutch failing this way?
I was riding with the track tighter than normal as I had lost one front heat exchnager protector so I may not have helped my cause. : (

All 5 bearings need to be replaced every 2 - 3 k miles.

The sled did not let you down, lack of maintenance caused the problem. The common error people make with the bearings on sleds is that they are "sealed" bearings therfore keep the grease in and the water and contaminants out. The bearings have seals in them but in no way are they sealed tight. I remove all of the "sealed" bearings from the sled at the end of the season, pull the seals with a pick tool, clean out the old grease and water and repack them with a quality synthetic grease. My RX1 has 8000 miles on the original bearings, my 2000 SRX has 13000 miles with the original bearings. Some people say replace all the bearings every year, that's simply a waste of money. With maintenace, these bearing will not let you down. Sleds are hign maintenance items, no way around it.
What is the history of the chain case maintenance?
Lube changed every year?
Cover removed and internals, cleaned and inspected every year?
Chain tension maintained properly, checked during the season?
A loose chain could cause an on and off "shock" load on the bearing when you're repeatedly (like in the twisties) rootin' on 'er the way she likes it when she's properly maintained.

Guys, thanks for the tips.
Believe it or not, the sled has been well maintained, chain case fluid changed and tension checked every year, suspension gone thru ever year, shocks recharged, secondary buttons, clutch springs, etc.
Im pretty happy with going 8900 miles to first real break down. : )
Doing the piston rings and jackshaft bearings this summer.
