Hey guys. I have a quick question in regards to fogging my viper. I am fairly new to the sled game but gave It a go last night. Just worried I didnt get it well enough.
First I drained out most of the gas and put a healthy dose of marine stabil in and ran the sled for about 10 minutes .
Then I took the top of the air box off and tried to run one can of fogging oil and the throttle while my old man ran two other cans for the other cylinders.
The problem is that when we started fogging the sled died in about three seconds.......I restarted it and we got it to go for about another four seconds before bogging out. It did smoke pretty good the second time. Then I sprayed some down each cylinder.
Does that sound sufficient?.........it didn't run long while we were fogging.....I just want to make sure everything is kosher as I love the sled and dont want any crank Issues......or is there a better way to do it?

should be good...you want to slowly spray so that it doesn't kill the motor right away to ensure everything gets a healthy coat. I do just what you did and then I really soak each cylinder and pull it over a few times and then soak them again and call it good.
I think you may have run out of gas, and was just running on stabil and fog if your engine died on you.... I pull the air box off to get the fog solution directly in the carbs,, as I then pull the carbs off and go through them...... Then drain the gas out... That way you are ready to go when the snow falls. If you do not pull the carbs at end of season, you will have a much harder time cleaning them in the fall, ( do to gas sitting the in carbs all summer long),,,,, If you do it at storage time you will usually find them already clean... I still make sure all is clear,(pull jets and blow out all passage ways as you would normally do for preseason).. Sled is ready to rock when the snow flies.......
With the airbox off it makes it easier to switch the can of fogging oil from carb to carb while using the throttle to keep it running. It should run on the fogging oil alone.
Yamaha recommends draining all the fuel from the tank and carbs.

So at this point I am thinking I should pull it out and try it again........
Probably going to be a bear to get restarted.....
Do you think I would be better off just running one can of fogging oil by myself? It seemed like running three cans was just drowining it out too much.
Or, if you think what I did the first time was sufficent I will just leave it at that.
Also, will drain the gas out of the carbs.....

I don't think I'd be comfortable with 7 seconds of intermittent fogging but it's probably enough. If you aren't comfortable then use a tablespoon of pre-mix down the plug holes to get it started (after removing the airbox), let it warm up and then go to town with one can of fogging oil alternating between each carb (about a second or two on each cylinder until at least half the can is gone). I go through the better part of half a can with one hand on the can and the other on the throttle to keep the rpms up then stall it out with a large dose in each carb. Drain the bowls and tank, install air box and done.
I think it's easier to do this yourself cause you can regulate the fogging oil based on throttle response... or lack there of.
