I was pondering about installing a peak head in my 2000 mtn max. I do not know alot about motors. I still would like the most performance I can get. I have some questions though. Will I need to run gas with higher than 91 octane? I know it is always a great idea to check jetting, but will there really be alot of re-jetting to do. I have chased the jetting alot, and it is annoying , but do-able. do you need to do more than just bolt the new head on? ( correct pattern for tightening of course)? do you need to change timing, and if so how? I know from reading that you need to get the correct cc size for your elevation. I am looking at 20cc. but it says to subtract a cc for porting? I should state the macine is ported. I ride at 10000-12000 ft. it's piped with slp's. I use it off trail and for hillclimbing. Is this a decent performance boost for the price? thanks :letitsnow

the people i know that run the peak heads love them. you should have alot to gain given the altitude you ride at. if your contemplating a purchase from mtn performance, i would recommend finding an alternate supplier. you wont get any info or customer support from mtn performance.
the 20cc domes would be what you need, no timing adjustments needed, cant say for sure on the jetting with pipes, but from experience, slp will be a wealth of information and probably have more knowledge and experience with the peak head than mtn performance will.

Peak heads are manufactured by Peak Performance Products out of Colorado. I have the phone number for them around here somewhere(maybe do a google search). http://www.peakdesignworks.com/PeakPerformancefrontpage.html

I am running a 20cc dome(wanted to stay around 10:1-11:1 compression ratio) on my sled at around 500-1000 ft elevation(about 155-160 psi compression) I jetted up for safety and for the deteriorating fuels of today. My sled called for 150's w/Bender triples and I bumped to 155 - of course for my elevation. You will like the added throttle response as it helps the motor get to top end rpms quicker. I have noticed that with my safe jetting and the extra cooling design in the head that I seem to foul plugs if not properly warmed up before any extreme riding.

thanks guys

thanks for the input. do you thinkthat 91 octane ags would be ok at 10000ft plus? :2strokes:

I forgot to mention that I also run the highest grade of gasoline that I cam find at the pump which is 91,92, 93 octane. So I would think you should be fine as this will also keep any detonation down to a minimum.
