Got a set of these extensions for a Christmas gift and want to try and put them on tomorrow. I didn't get the tool that was "recommended" to go with them to put them on, as I didn't feel it was worth the $20 for something that would get used once. It was bad enough that the extensions were nearly $60 after taxes and shipping, for something that seems so simple. Anyhow, I don't have a spanner wrench to remove the springs from my Ohlins. Is there any easy way to do this without the wrench? When I go to put the shocks back on will I have to do any other modifications to the front end of the sled due to the change in ride height? Thanks in advance and hopefully everyone has a merry Christmas (what is left of it).

As for getting the spring on and off, usually with a spanner wrench, you cant break the lock nut anyways, I use a hammer and a flathead screwdriver. This has never failed me. As for the adjusting, you will have to bring the preload below what it was set at before but I am not sure of how mouch further down.

The locking ring will come off like explained above. To get the eyelet off the shaft use a couple pieces of aluminium in a vise. You will have to round out a section for the shaft to fit into.Make sure you use something soft so you dont damage the shaft. The eyelets come off easier when heated some with a propane torch.Good luck.
since this thread has been started..i would like to know how this extensions work once installed. i have just installed the viper rear shocks in my '01 srx and i have considered adding this to complement the extra travel in the rear skid. any extra info would be nice.
jwifferdill..let us know how the install.

I just installed viper shocks in my rear skid and will be installing the Ohlins extensions this week. I will let you know how they work out. They're supossed to give you about 1" extra in travel. Does anyone know what the top and bottom spacing should be on your control rods once the viper shocks have been installed?
the extension just screws on the end of the shock shaft it gives you 1" drop out travel

Got them installed tonight. Had to go to a local machine shop to have the piston rod holder made. Cost me $15 but oh well. Once you heat the eyelets they come right off and installing the shock extensions is pretty easy. I used blue loctite, although they say to use green. There is no way those things are coming off of there, so I'm not sure why you would need that extra strong green loctite. The install is pretty simple with the holder tool. If anyone is looking for one I'd be willing to sell it, as I probably won't be needing it again. While I had one of my shocks off I noticed it was bent ever so slightly down by the eyelet where the extension went on. I didn't think it was a big deal, but if it is I'll have it fixed. The sled looks to sit higher in the front and I'll let you know how I like it. I was having some problems bottoming out last year after I installed the C&A skis, so I'll keep you guys posted on how these work out. Thanks to those who helped out!
