Broken Jackshaft 2001 Srx 700 (PICTURES ADDED)
I was tooling along a groomed trail at about 80 when I felt a vibration near my left foot. It seemed like it was when I was on the throttle only. About 20 minutes later the jack shaft let go. It broke on the sleft side just in from the jackshaft bearing. Lucky thet the design of the bearing holder held the secondary clutch from flying away.
IS THIS A COMMON THING?

More common than you think. I had one let go in the same location while dynoing. Heard of one other one breaking in the same spot after chatting with some people about this problem.

the jackshafts I bought from you vince is still holding up..thanks..my set screws are tight and locktighted good this time also..learned the hard way..but didn't have a shaft snap at least..only thing is I installed my bearing retainer plates wrong and that is a pain to switch around.Gonna have to install a new track on my SRX anyways..so everything comes apart and I can change all drive line bearings the same time.harness racer said:reasonable , answe r , blue , very possible . i broke one on the right side due to chain failure it pilled up on the top gear and snaped the shaft

No the set screws were still tight and never spun. The break was about 3 inches inboard of the bearing. bought one on e bay for $20.00. Yamaha wants $235.00 and all this time I was worried that the drive shaft on my APEX would break but it still has not

it's common. friend had a '99 600 SX that broke in the exact same place. good thing his wife wasn't going to fast, didn't damge anything else and was only a couple miles away from the motel.

The bearing did not spin. the set screws were tight and were new ones installed with the new bearing. The bearing is still mint and will be going back in.
