I have done some searching and found that this has been done a few times but I can't find any details.
This winter my sx blew the motor so I picked up an 02' srx to ride for the rest of the winter. I really liked the way my sx handled and would love to drop in the srx motor. I also prefer the looks of my sx to the srx.
Is there anyone that has done this? The only thing that concerns me about the fitment is the pipes. I would like to keep it stock if possible, I just want to gather some information so I don't waste my time with this project.

The SRX pipes wont fit under the SX hood without modifications. The easiest way to do the swap would be to put the SX suspension in the SRX. Everything else is basically the same. You could do it that way in just a couple of hours and be done..

I didn't think they would fit, it's too bad that would be a neat project. Is there any other way to do it?

I have a 2002 SRX as well as two ported/piped SXs that are all set up exactly the same with long travel proaction, 144" ripsaws ect.
IMO:
Stick with the late model[duel headlight]Redhead! No power valves to clean, lighter, and when properly tuned with pipes equal power. Our 700SX is very strong!
The only downside I see with the Redhead is lesser fuel economy...the SRXs really do get great mileage for their age.

We really do need spell check on here so I don't have to continually edit!!!!

I would have kept my sx without question but now it sits with a blown crank (I think) so it will need lots of work. But the sx is a 99 and has the low output stator, I was also having trouble with grip warmers.
I thought it would be a great project to throw the srx engine in the sx. Oh well looks like the srx is going to get the 144" M-10 then.

Try total recreation ( i believe thats the name) in brechin. He has a lot of parts, might have a bottom end or a complete engine. If you need the crank case split and repaired I know a guy in stouffville who is pretty good, I take a lot of stuff to him dirtbikes, sleds etc. Fairly reasonable. Let me know he is a pretty busy guy so if it would be good to get it done over the summer so you can get it up and running before winter.

I think i'm going to scrap the sx to be honest, it has over 30 000 km on it and a new crank is not going to be cheap. I just don't want to dump anymore money into it for something else to go wrong. I hope the srx will handle the same as my sx did though.

The SRX in stock form handles better then the sx ( have both). If you long track the SRX i'm not sure how it would handle but there are people on here who have.
