Had to take center jug of my daughters viper to get that broken exhaust stud out. Still havent got it out yet but not defeated. Read the manual and a bunch of post. So i just clean old gasket and cylinder base good, use cooper spray. Now here's were its out of my experience. Per manual i make sure ring gaps are lined up with piston notches in the groves. Then compress rings by hand and simply slide cylinder back on over piston and rings. Retorque and good to go for new head gasket. Got the head gasket part fine. Does that sound about right. Seems to easy but never done it. I read about a ring compressor but manual say's just to use fingers to compress rings. I will check specs on ring gap and such before replacing cylinder but everything looks good to the eye. Its only got 3000mi. No blowby, crosshatch looks new, wash good (tad rich maybe). Only reason for taking off it the darn exhaust stud.
Thanks for the thoughts guys. chris

YOUR FINE MAN, ONLY THING KEEP IN MIND THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN THOSE RINGS. ANOTHER WORDS A TOP AND BOTTOM. FLAT SIDE GOES DOWN. SLOPED SIDE GOES UPWARD. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Thanks tony. Never took the rings off, just going with the rings already on the piston. They look fine and i see no reason to change them if that sounds right. When i do ill just do them all. I shouldnt have to change them or take them off do I? My goal is to just get the stud out and put it back together. Thanks again. chris

No need to take rings off piston, especially considering sled ran fine. I had my buddy the local yammi guru supervise my first 2 stroke engine rework. I have rebuild a few small block chevys where forementioned ring compressor was a must! similar but very different then the 2 stroke. It is just that simple, squezze with fingers and slide jug over.
