i have a 2002 viper and i am a yamaha guy and i am sticking with it!. heres my theory though. i love the viper and the ergonomics but i dont like how under powered they are for a 700 and i dont like how its hard to make them ride better on on the cheaper side. i already tried pipes and my mileage was absolutely horrible. and i was going to put a edge skid in the rear but i also wanted some better shocks then the front with a little higher stance. but they got the fork design.

so im thinking if i buy a 2002 or 01 sxr 700 and pipe it would and throw some different skies , edge skid and different front shocks would i be happy with it. i know they got bullet proof motors which is a plus and probably way around the same as the viper any ways so i was just thinking. let me know what you guys think if my theory would suit me or not.

i like to ride back country and ruff trail so.

sXR no diff suspension than a Viper, are you just looking for a red head sled to pipe then? What mileage were you getting w/ the pipes on the Viper? If you like to go back country, you might want to make it a 136"
I have my '02 Viper, trail ported, 136", 1.25" ripsaw w/ 162 1.34" roetin studs, drop brackets, Peak Performance Head, with a pretty spot on 8dn20 setup and I was getting 8.5mpg all day long. Also, I put on Slydog Race skis w/ 7.5" shaper bars and they were night and day difference over the OEM blue skis. They actually float(6"wide) and the reverse keel goes where you aim them. I'm sorry that I waited till this year to change the skis.

Eventhough, I pulled the trigger last week on a '12 Apex XTX and it is probably the last year for me riding this sled.

most a decade ago and it has never been apart...it still beats my 2002 SRX that is basically set up the same everywhere but at the fuel pumps!

Sounds like the best for you would be to get a SRX and modify the suspensions.
