so as some of you know i grabbed another srx a 2000... but it has no motor, only salvageable is two cylinders, two pistons, and the heads, electrics and etc.....
if i could find a motor option affordable enough it will save this thing from being parted out.
the case is shot, and im sure the crank needs work...
so im in the hunt for either a running engine, or a lower/bottom end ...
are all the years interchangeable?98-99??
ideal plan would be to find a bottom end, find one more 00-02 cylinder, piston, and put it all together!!!
if anyone has something you think i need please let me know, if this doesnt pan out ill keep you guys updated if i part her out...

Just my opinion but I beleive that yes 98-99 are interchangable BUT being as they were the years with crank issues I personally would shy away from those years. I think stator is specific to 2000, I may be wrong but I beleive 98-99 interchange,00 is a lone soldier, and 01-02 interchange. I THINK

maybe someone could verify ... i was hoping 2000 stator was interchangeable... for my other srx i found a used on but it was from a 2000Devilin AblueDress! said:Just my opinion but I beleive that yes 98-99 are interchangable BUT being as they were the years with crank issues I personally would shy away from those years. Seems to me that some late 00 and all 01 had the better twin bulb which required more juice.
Check with user name TREKKER he has a complete engine he is willing to part out. He has a classified for a complete part out of a 2000 SRX700mattyg1405 said:so as some of you know i grabbed another srx a 2000... but it has no motor, only salvageable is two cylinders, two pistons, and the heads, electrics and etc.....

98-99 are not interchangeable..UNLESS... you move the pick up coil location, then use the 2000-02 stator and flywheel. the 98-99 uses a 175 watt stator and the flywheel is alot bigger in diameter so if you bolt it together it wont have spark because the pick up coil will be too far away from the 2000 flywheel, the flywheels are totally differnt for the 3d ign system.

thanks don... i have all of the parts with the 2000 so if i found one (98-99) cheap enough i could swap it all over...
did 99 have the crank problem too?
whats the easiest way to tell the difference between 98-99 and 00-02?

I would just look for a 2000 motor save all the extra work for you
The 2000 had a little more power than 98-99 and as mentioned the 98 had crank problems but should be fixed already the 99 weren't as common for cranks
the 2000 engine is all by itself as being interchangable with other years

why is the 2000 not interchangeable with 01-02?needaSRX said:I would just look for a 2000 motor save all the extra work for you

i thought all the 00-02 where interchangeable...
just certain stuff such as stator and cdi these don't match to 01-02
Jugs, heads and pistons would be the same just the electronics are unique to the 2000 vs the 01 or 02 plus the 02 had DCS which makes the cdi specific to that model.needaSRX said:just certain stuff such as stator and cdi these don't match to 01-02
the bottomends are all the same from 2000-02.
only thing differnt is the cdi plugs on the cdi itself from 2000-02 srx's, no differnt at stator plug, so any year bottomend of the engine will work
a 98-99 bottomend can also be made to work if you move the pickk up coil location and run the 2000-02 flywheel and stator.
you can also use a viper bottomend if you find one, it also has the same 300watt stator and flywheel as the 2000-02 srx. the crank is a porkchop design instead of a full circle but wont effect the way it runs, either will work just fine.
