There have been a few posts this past season about running an SRX on premixed fuel rather than runningthe oil injection system. After taking a close look at the design of the SRX engine, it should NOT be run without the oil injectin system. The oil injection system delivers oil to the fuel pump where the oil is mixed with the gas and it also delivers oil to a gearbox which drives the oil pump and water pump. There is a gear on the crankshaft which drives the oil pump/water pump shaft. Oil from the gearbox room is then delivered to the crankcase directly below the PTO cylinder. The oil pump/water pump gears along with two ball bearings, one on each end of the shaft receive oil ONLY from the oil pump. Without the oil injection system, the oil pump/water pump gears and the two small ball bearings will be running dry. The oil injection system is a must for this engine.

I suspect this design is used across all yamaha engines.

thats some good infor there!!!! i have a friend who wanted to ditch the oil setup on his srx grass sled im going to be telling him about this

For racing purposes I have run sleds without the oil injection system. You have to remove the oil pump and run a feed tube that you use for lubricating the bearings. Is not a big deal for a race sled but I sure wouldn't do it on a trail runner!

I just tore mine off, but it is race only sled. I like the comfort of knowing my sled is getting oil all the time, especially for what I got in my motor.
