I have an 04 viper mountain that is all stock except for an aftermarket single pipe and silencer. I want to put some money into it for next year, currently it tops out around 95-100 mph but I would like more low end snap and don't care if i lose top end. I want the front end to come up more when i hammer on it and better powder riding. Bring on some ideas and suggestions!!

A set of pipes with the right clutching ang gearing will bring it to life. I ran a set of CPR's and it would snap your neck. Im not a mtn guy but pipes are a good start. Chris

i'd pipe it and leave the engine internally stock, cheaper replacement parts, pipes, and some clutching, mtn sleds are already geared low enough, i feel like anymore gearing and you'd be spinning more than necessary

If you already have a aft. single pipe you could do clutching, gearing and a track change and likely improve the sled 100%. Theres always triple pipes too but the gas mpg will be cut by at least half. Lastly, theres always trail porting to do and this will bump up the engine a little bit and definitely give it more snap and pull, still need the clutching/gearing to go along with the engine work.

You can see some of the mods I've made below. It's a much, much better sled now. Although my sled was fairly new but second hand and a few of the mods were completed by the prior owner namely the reeds, SLP triple pipes, and Ataac (carb compensator not really needed here in MN, he used out west a lot).

If you really want to lift the skis add hp and remove the transfer rods. I originally had no transfer rods and my sled wheelied every time I blurped the flipper. Was actually unmanageable. So i reinstalled them. But this summer I'm going to re-remove the rods and install a transfer enhancement kit.

Good mods for better off trail performance are skis (unless your came with saddless Yammi Mt skis, then keep them), Triple pipes for added power (if you add pipes also allow for added cooling via a head mod of some sort), a riser for better ergonomcs, Boss seat. If your track is the Camo Challenger (was the oem track) then that's a good off trail track, but pretty soft for around here and tends to lose lugs fast.

Doess your sled still stock gearing? It seems to have been geared up as your top speeds are too high for a stock Mt Viper. Gearing it back down to stock gearing will make you top out at 85 ish but will improve low end and power for spinning the track in powder. That's be a mod I'd consider if I were you also.

Let us know waht your thoughts are.

;)!
