I've only had to start it twice, and have had to resort to pulling a plug and putting a touch of gas in one cylinder to get it started both times... previous owner says it always started a bit hard when cold (it's been single digits or teens the last few days here). I put new plugs in it. Still starts really hard. Full choke, no throttle, and I can pull, pull, and pull with little result.

After running for a couple of minutes, it starts right up first pull. Has anyone got any tricks for easier starting??

How much fogging oil was used when it was summerized?

I just fouled two sets of plugs on my VMax because I guess I really soaked the cylinders when I fogged it last Spring. I was worried that something was seriously wrong with the thing, but rather than start messing around with things I don't know about, I crossed my fingers and just kept changing the plugs.

After the third set, it cranked right up, no problemo.

I figured it out.... the little choke lever has a second setting, all the way choked it starts right up. Thanks guys.

mine doesnt start good the ole 96 vmax 600. even with the choke all the way back starts after about the 30th pull. choke seems to be right so im tricked.

Just a thought, Have you checked the adjustment on the choke cable. My buddies started just like that, found out the cable was out of adjustment and not opening the choke all of the way. Starts fine now. Soc
