stock gearing on 02 SRX is 23/38-1.65,Is there any advantage in lets say going to a 24/40-1.66?You are making your chain more efficiant it would seem by making the chains radius less sharp.Or even lets say a 25/42-1.68.you are making the chain run even less sharp and in effect gearing down slightly, what is every ones opinion on this?thanks-Harvey

harvey, i dont think they make a chain long enough for a 25/40 could be wrong 24/40 would be the same as stock and yes more efficient because the chain doesnt have as much as a bend to travel around. when i go home back to michigan i used a 20/40 with 68L chain just cause i like the sudden rocket feeling when i hit the throttle. but whenever you can make your gearing the same with a smaller bend in the chain, it is always more efficient.

ya,I thought it made sense, you can get larger chains by going to an aftermarket chain and gears, just didnt know if it was worth it,thanks-Harvey

I don't think a 25 tooth sprocket will fit into the case. There is a point where larger gears will hurt also, added weight.

Just an update,I ordered a 40 tooth,24,and 25 tooth, the 25 is on back order but I was able to install the 24/40 with out a problem with the 70 link chain, also there is plenty of room to get the 25 in their too with the 70 link chain.I bought these gears from hauck, they are hyvo gears and the 25/40 and 70 link chain weigh about 3/4 of a pound less than the 23/38 stock setup in my 02 with a 68 link chain.Just thought I would pass the info along.-Harvey

gears

a 41 bottom fits too no problem, been there dun that!

ya,I noticed there was also more room in the bottom to go more.Need some hard pack on the lake so I can see if my rotating weight reduction and big wheels gained me anything, its just powder over bare ice right now,not ideal conditions for trying speed runs.thanks-Harvey
