ontario crank services in orillia ontario has anyone used them to get replating done if so how was the price and the work

Guy no. 1 was not necessarily clueless or wrong. Buying a used cylinder is not guarantee it is any good, it will need to be cleaned up, honed, and measured to be sure it is withing spec.. If it is not in spec., you have probably spent more money than the used cylinder is worth as a core (typically $100). A good used cylinder will probably cost you $125 - $150. Buying a replated cylinder from a reputable company as part of a cylinder exchange program will cost you about $235 BUT you will get a cylinder than has been glass beaded clean, had the plating removed, replated honed and measured to make sure it is in spec.. If you have the equipment and skills to measure and hone the cylinder(s) then it is worth it. If you have to buy the equipment and don't have the skills then you are better off buying a remanufactured cylinder.

To each their own.......
