Doesw anyone know if and how to mount an sc-5m skid into a viper? Will it work? The skid is off of a 2009 skidoo summit.

i can tell you the bolt center too center on the tunnel of the doner sled is very important then its pretty much jus a tunnel ext, clearence an track tension you can make jus about any suspension work
Yes, as the bandit mentioned - the key is the CTC of the donor sled. This affects the geometry of the skid travel. Get this wrong by as little as 1/8" and it won't work as well, more and it can even bind.
The one thing to take into consideration when swapping skids from dissimilar sleds, is ride attitude (not of the rider, but how the sled sits). If you can get a feel for how the skid was setup on the donor sled (back of skid to the front of skid to the skis) this will help. You can't just match it because there are other things to consider, but you can try as best you can. The 2 biggest things the Viper needs when swapping to a skid from a newer style sled is to get the front ride height increased, and the rider weight forward. A high-rise seat and pivoted riser help with the latter, by I am still working on the first one. Steering becomes an issue if you simply increase the travel.
I do of course presume that you are not interested in riding flatland trails at speed with this setup - increasing the ride height hurts trail manners to some degree.

this will be a mountain setup. Is there a reason people talk about using the SCIII-10 in the vipers more than most others? Was that skid prior to the rider forward skid?

Yes the sc-10 3 came out before rider forward in the '02 model year if I recall.They did use it on the rev for a while, but all following versions where designed first and foremost for rider forward.
