Hey guys I just got a 98 srx 600 and after some tlc im thinking of making a few runs in the grass just to see where my clutching is at and make any adjustments. besides keeping the hyfax wet what should i be worried about i.e. engine warm up/cool down time. Im not looking to tear up my sled just want to get close with my clutching so there will be less work come snow time

One WOT pass at a time. Dont make repeated passes back and forth. Give the sled a little time to warm up (I go by the feel of the heat exchangers). The first pass you make just plan on the sled cleaning out before you can tell how much you are bogging. You will only be able to get your clutching close but in all honesty grass and snow are two different animals as the coefficents of friction are night and day. Ambient temperature will affect it as well. I.E, my old SXR was pulling 8500 to 8600 on a 25 degree day with semi powdery snow. I put it out on the grass at 43 degrees with no snow on dry grass and she was barely pulling 8300.

If grass dragging, like stated above, make sure to clean it out on a stand and let it warm up. they like a good heated motor. Your clutching won't be close from dirt to snow.

LIKE POSTED ABOVE, GET A LOT OF HEAT IN YOUR PIPES. 600 SRX WERE VERY COLD BLOODED. STOCK CLUTCHING WAS AWFUL ON THESE, (if you have it ). YOU ALSO CAN USE SILCONE SPRAY ON YOUR RAILS. ALOT OF THESE COME INTO PLAY ON GRASS, CLUTCHING, JETTING, GEARING, SUSPENSION SET-UP etc. 3:16 (yammie tony)

thanks for the help guys admittedly this grass run wont be all bussiness trying to set things up i just want to ride my new sled dang it lol :letitsnow you say the stock clutching is poor on these sleds and i know this question has been asked a thousand times and yes i have read the tech section on clutching but would a clutch kit like the one offered by bender help significantly. i know everyones needs are different but would this at least be a step in the right direction for an all around trail sled

IMO forget a clutch kit from bender, etc and go to the tech pages and pick out a clutch setup from turk, that goes w/your riding style and enjoy. Forget clutch kits all together.
