Hi,
I am a newbie and bought a 99 SRX with only 2200 miles on it last year..I am a big rider, 6'3, 245 lbs, and the guy I bought it from was running it on lakes so the suspension was not set up for me, and I didnt have much time to mess with it, but I hear the no-action has no travel anyway so I'm thinking of something new.
My question is what should I do...
A) Would I be better off with a 136 vs 121 skid?
B) What shoudl I do for more travel and a better ride?
Viper kit?
Long Travel SRX Kit?
M-10?
Expert X?
I ride about 25% "semi-groomed" trails in south and central WI and 75% well groomed UP Michigan trails...

With the little miles on the sled it would work well for those trails for another couple of thousand miles if you only increased the spring preloads.
For a better ride...in the long run and no worries about breakage another brand skidframe is easy on the wallet if you did not mind running another brand !
A m10 or a expert are more money and should have the front shocks longer to compensate for the higher lift in the rear from these.IMO
136 will allways ride better any brand but more expense for a track as well of course.
I like a 10 inch skid any brand dosent matter as long as they are 2002 and newer with the stock shocks on front for the nice cornering the srx has.The viper shocks work well on front 2 with the springs set soft for bumpy trails. But i run the ohlins with the brackets flipped because they last forever.

So would a Viper skid fit in an SRX and provide a good improvement in ride?

A viper skid should be a direct fit.
What about an Xtra 12? Found one cheap..

stay away from the extra 12 there junk. viper and srx skid are the same skid only difference is the shocks and limiter straps. There is always a SC10-III or a newer cat skid. But m-10, expert X and ZX2 are the best way to go but you are dropping some coin. even if you get a older M10 you have to rebuild and get a mount kit. and also match the front to the rear for ride height and that means flipping front shock mounts or getting different shocks or both.
I have an M10 in my SRX and love it. it is a great skid Topgun has a Expert X and that rides amazing also. there both great skids. it all depends on what you are looking to spend

Good Question! I actually had the same questions in regards to my 98.....sled was a blast on the trails but spent most of my time also on the ditches or beat up trails.
BTW....do all the "other skids" install virtually the same, or of the ones listed (non - yamaha) does any one of them install easier or more difficult then the others?
Thanks,
Steve

Yes I did forget the transfer rod shafts on the vipers and sxr's are longer than the SRX and the sx's
