What would cause this on the fixed Secondary Sheave? This after only 100 miles of riding. Could this be my issue with the sled holding 8,500 RPM for only a couple of seconds, then dropping down to 7,000?

spring is probably sacked out and lost its tension. would cause the secondary to open to fast, and not have enough sideways pressure to keep the belt in the proper torque operating zone, because that definitely looks like a belt riding deep and slipping.

but what do I know. :)

the clutch appears as though it was stuck open(shifted out) and some serious belt slipping occured causing the belt residue.

not too surprising it was contained to a single sheave, the other one was perhaps out of the line of fire due to being stuck open or an alignment issue.

possible causes would be not enough pretension on the spring and helix, or an improperly wound helix.

had an srx years back that if you slammed the brake on during evasive manuevers, the clutch would hang open and burn the belt. a little more wrap cured the problem.

Bought a new primary and secondary spring. Will test it out when the snow flies again. Belt is also new. My offset is 14.25 mm with the secondary push away from the jackshaft bearing. Is that the proper way to measure? I have approx. 1.5 mm freeplay (spec is 1 - 2).

YA, YOUR GOOD THERE. YAMAHA,s OFFSET SPEC ON THE SRX IS WIDE. I HAVE FOUND A TIGHT OFFSET OR TIGHTER OFFSET WORKS BETTER. THAT FREEPLAY MIGHT BE PART OF YOUR PROBLEM . ARE USEING 8DN BELT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

So what should the ideal free play be (spec. 1mm - 2mm) and what shoulkd the offset be (spec. 13.5 mm - 16.5 mm) and where should the secdondary be for checking measurement (pushed towards chaincase or pushed away from chaincase)?

1-2mm freeplay on secondary. Your specs are right. Pushed towards chaincase.
