Hey guys,

I feel like this might be a bit of a silly question but, what do you guys all run for a primary drive belt. The shop I bought my sled from put a brand new drive belt on it before I bought it. Its the stock yamaha, and from everything I have read it's hard as a rock and slips horribly. I can attest to the slipping horribly, the belt would slip horribly just as the sled was getting ready to down shift.

What's the school of thought, run a softer belt for a smaller cc engine and replace it more often, or run a "performance extreme" belt like a Gates Extreme or Ultimax XS. I would think that a sacrifice in belt life would be worth it for extra grip of a softer belt for a lower HP sled.

Most on here run yamaha belts. If yours is slipping, you need to make some clutch adjustments. I use yamaha belts with no problems, my clutches run nice & cool to the touch.

The only time I have seen an aftermaket belt outperform an 8dn is on multiple pulls on a long hillclimb the 8dn will lose a few rpm where the ultimax will hold the rpm when hot. that being said, I run 8dn's with great luck.

Which sled, which belt? Yamaha has several different belt specs.

Bottom line: Run the belt the clutches are adjusted for

Adjust the clutches to match the belt you want to use.

The belt on it is brand new, which I have read is known to slip and squeal for the first 100 miles or so while it's broken in. I need to buy a second for a spare, just didn't know if there was something better and I could make the yamaha belt the spare.

Adjust your secondary belt height. That's what causes the squealing. Mine don't squeal when I put them on (new ones), after I know the proper height. I break them in for 20-30 miles and then it's throttle to the bar.
