got this e-mail from my Mom..always new something doesn't smell right about the Oil and control of oil for profit...there is a ton of oil out there close to home and yet we are paying high prices.Gas should be a buck a gallon really..

American & Canadian Oil - can you believe this!!!!!!?

OIL - you better sit down... Here's an interesting read, important and verifiable information : About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil and one of the Forbes Bros. was the guest. The host said to Forbes, "I am going to ask you a direct question and I would like a direct answer; how much oil does the U.S. have in the ground?" Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, "more than all the Middle East put together."
Please read below.

The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008 that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since 1995) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota, western South Dakota , and extreme eastern Montana ...... Check THIS out:

http://bakkenshale.net/bakkenshalemap.html

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... At $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5..3 trillion.

"When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.." says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature's financial analyst. "

This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years," reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
It's a formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.' It stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada ..
For years, U. S. Oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves....
And we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!

That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight. And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from 2006!

U. S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In three and a half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this motherload of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling?

They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth. Here are the official estimates:

- 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

- 18-times as much oil as Iraq

- 21-times as much oil as Kuwait

- 22-times as much oil as Iran

- 500-times as much oil as Yemen

- and it's all right here in the Western United States .

HOW can this BE?

HOW can we NOT BE extracting this?

Because the environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate our lives and our economy.....WHY?

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION barrels untapped. That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post.

Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find? Think again! It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has to. Think OPEC just might be funding the environmentalists?

Got your attention yet?

Now, while you're thinking about it, do this:

Pass this along.

If you don't take a little time to do this,

Then you should stifle yourself the next time you complain about gas prices - by doing NOTHING, you forfeit your right to complain.

Now I just wonder what would happen in this country if every one of you sent this to every one in your address book. By the way...this is all true. Check it out at the link below!!!

GOOGLE it, or follow this link. It will blow your mind.

This is acutally pretty old news and yes it is very true. The new technology they speak of is horizontal drilling fully invented tested tried and proven in Western Canada. I am an oilfiled drilling consultant and I have drilled these wells in Southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba in the Frobisher and Bakken formations. One well drilled horizontally is like drilling 300 vertical wells. It opens up the formations much more and slow formations like the bakken are now feasible producers. When the bakken was drilled vertically the well was not feasible to produce to little oil for the money spent.

like sled dog said. old news. and besides the problems (before the "new technology") of extracting the oil. the worst part (imo) of getting oil in the US is all the enviromental hurdles, lobbying, politics etc... after the VP spill good luck drilling new oil reserves here for a while. and after the events in japan good luck with nuclear power here too. even though in the long run they are the most enviromentally freindly large scale power sources out there. and our plants as well as europes are 100x safer than japans. sure there's wind, solar, and hydro but other than hydro the production verses cost can't compete on the other two

I concur on nuclear energy we should be investing in and building them now. They are in my opinion the best energy source second only to hydro which takes advantage of free gravity.

I have some relatives out in North Dakota that are now instant millionares because the oil companies are using their land to drill for oil in this oil field. In fact ND is making millionares at a rate that all of the other 49 states put together can't match because of the oil boom.
They estimate that this oil field contains 435 billion barrels of oil. We have only consumed about 50 billion barrels of oil from the middle east to date. So, if they were allowed to drill and extract the oil we would all benefit with jobs, cheaper fuel which in tunr means cheaper consumer goods and we would break our dependancy on other nations and keep our money here.
However, it is the same clowns that don't allow us to snowmobile in Yellow Stone that are working to keep the drilling from happening. They don't want the environmental impact from the drilling and they don't want people driving more if gas were to go down. They aren't going to be happy until we are all living in a socialist utopia.

Agreed, old news.

Did anyone catch the GM exec state the other day that we all need to be paying another 50 cents to a dollar more for fuel via gubmint tax? In a sane world investors would throw him out on his ear.

Artificially raise fuel prices so folks stop buying evil SUVs and pick-ups. You know, the vehicles BIG AUTO makes the most profit on and force folks into Volts that will now cost even more due to the higher costs in production due to... higher fuel prices.

"With my plan, energy prices would necessarally sky-rocket"

If only it were just incompetence.

sounds like the GM exec is another one of those mysterian, utopia, socialists that worked his way into power only to use it for his own agenda instead of the agenda of his company or the good of the people as a whole. If you ever get the chance to listen to the pod cast of "Garage Logic" on AM 1500 out of Minneapolis, do it. You will get a good sense of what the "Mysterians" are and how they are getting into business and political power only to use it to push the mysterian, uptopia, socialist views down our throats. They have no idea and/or they don't care what their views are doing to the everday American.
Ok, I am off my soap box now.

My man, its not just an "American" issue. What self serving American politicians and business people do has long affected people to the North, South, East and West of your boarders too...
