Ok I have two SRX engines here and one has the large hole for coolant on the pto side and one has it on the mag side, my oem service manual says nothing about this, which way is correct?

from the manual...

· Install the gasket so that the side with elevations
faces upward.
· The edge with the notch a should be between
cylinders #1 and #2.

I HAVE ORIGINAL YAMAHA SRX SERVICE MANUAL RIGHT IN MY HAND AND MONSTER INFO IS RIGHT ON. THAT HOLE YOUR TALKING ABOUT GOES CLOSEST TO PTO. 3:16 (yammie tony)

My manual is for the 98 and says nothing about the gasket, tony, what page is this on? I guess my thinking is on 98-99 models they had the mag side jetted up to help cool it, on 2000 and up they had the pto side jetted up so would the big hole be on the mag side for the 98-99 and on the pto for 2000 and up?

MANUAL I HAVE IS PRINTED JUNE OF 99 1ST EDITION. INFO IS ON PAGE 5-16. YOU MAKE A GREAT POINT. I AM GONNA DIG MY 98 SERVICE MANUAL OUT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

My book was printed july 97 first edition, on page 5-3 it has a drawing of the lower end with the gasket in question but gives no information other than a parts list, page 5-16 has no information on the gasket,so is it the pto side?

maybe phone the dealer..I am sure others can chime in on this issue for you.Trick is to always remember how the old gasket was sitting before it was removed...pics help also as you open motor up..then you can go back to the pics and see.

It was on the pto side when dissasembled,if I had never looked at the other motor I would not be questioning the placement of the larger hole,so it seems that one was put togeather wrong, thanks for the help.

there is a little "v" notch on the front edge of the base gasket- exhaust side-. If you look in your manual, the pic shows the gasket sitting over the crankcase with the "V" between the PTO & center cylinders.

that was my exact words...between 1 and 2(PTO and Center)

problem is solved...

My manual does not show it sitting over the case but it does show the notch and it is on the pto side, a very easy to miss detail, why do they make it so difficult? thanks guys.
