Just purchased a package deal of an 02 Viper and 97 SX 600. This sled appears in great shape, starts right up on an engine rebuild a few years ago-7400+ mi.
A guy that works on my sleds said clutch needs rebuild, and track is so-so,some studs gone or pulled thru. I'm just wondering if its worth keeping as second sled...Any experience or knowledge these sleds is going to be a big help! ;)!

X2 I had 10000 miles on my 600 triple when I sold it and never had to open up the motor.

If this is a twin there hard on clutches and suck gas and oil

Thanks for the feedback, should I trade for a Viper? (Betheviper). Yeah, wish it was a triple, I'd keep for sure. First Yammie was a 99 SX 600! Glad Scott has resurfaced after I ditched (oops) the Attak!

97 is a twin, not quite so reliable. still fun sled, should have had power valves on it when they came out.

The twins were not so reliable? What kind of problems did they have?

I found the twins reliable, the only big issue I ever had with them was oil pumps. I had two different twins (97 venture 600 and a 98 vmax 600) and I had to replace the oil pump on both because they both failed. The only good thing is that when the pump fails, it fails wide open, so at least it still pumps oil, just far too much.

My Vmax twin had almost 12,000 miles when I sold it, and had never been opened up. She was nearing the end though, but last I heard, the guy had pushed it up to about 13,000, and was going to rebuild it then.

my dad's '98 xtc 600 is still kicking strong, w/approx 7500 miles on it. never been opened up and oil pump never failed either. also, its been great on gas too. the only complaints is that the front clutch side engine mount keeps breaking.
