Hey everyone hope everybody is enjoying there memorial day weekend . Ive got a question about the secondary clutch on my 98 srx 600 took it apart today to rebuild it. after disassembly i realized both sheaves at the inner most part (fully shifted) are extremely wore and distorted to the point that one has pin holes through the aluminum. the sled has three thousand miles and from what i can tell has had zero maintanence as far as the clutches go. from what i can tell all settings are stock. would age have weekend the spring enough to cause pressure on the belt to be reduced thus causing the excesive belt slip. iam going to find a used secondary to replace this one i plan on rebuilding and setting up according to turks trail set up. is there any thing else i should check out or just keep an eye on clutch temps when riding times come around again also what sleds used this same secondary this will aid me in finding a used one not worried about spring or helix will be changing thanks guys for all the help

You have any pics?? I would guess the poorly clutched SRX600 was the problem but I would like to see the parts and how they are worn.
97 thru 2003 except RX1 has the same secondary minus the spring and helix angle difference in model.

I would suspect the secondary belt slippage that caused the damage is probably a cobimation of issues.
The primary culprit would obviously be not enough belt grip at full shift.
Things to check,correct, and/or replace.
-worn secondary spring
-worn secondary bushings on sheaves and/or helix
-glazed secondary faces from snow/water getting on the clutches
-glazed/worn belt
-jackshaft +/or drive shaft bad bearings causing excessive rotational resistance causing belt to slip

Thanks guys for all the info i will try and post some pics im not real good with that kind of stuff give me time and ill figure it out.
Im going to try turks trail set up for the srx600 which consists of stock springs 4.5g rivets in both holes on the primary and a 53/43 helix in the secondary. the bushings are shot in both clutches all will be replaced including springs rollers buttons etc. ive installed a new track so while i was there all bearings were replaced. i also have a new belt and will clean the sheaves before riding starts again. hopefully all of this will eliminate any problems. i bought this machine knowing it would need some work. thats why i started in april lol. i enjoy tinkering with this stuff. you guys make this very enjoyable thanks again

BOB COVERED WHAT CAUSES THIS , BUT WHAT IT COMES DOWN TOO IS POOR MAINTENANCE. THESE SECONDARIES ARE A DIME A DOZEN.

Check also for worn secondary buttons.
