Wondering if this is happening to anyone else? The rivet will attach completely but the stem does not break off flush, it seems to be breaking about half way up then i have to cut it flush with the head of the rivet. Using steel snowmobile rivets. Using for snowflaps, remounting hood springs, small things like that. Would it be cheap rivets, cheap gun, or defective operator? Starting to drive me nuts. Thanks chris

I advise using Stavex rivets. This is what Yamaha used in many places on sleds for many years. In fact if you go to the Stavex web page you will see a picture of an SRX. They have a number of properties about them that make them the best for this application. They have excellent hole fill, great material gripping, low installed height, and are very strong for a non-structural rivet. There are paid advertisers on this site that sell them. I keep some in stock and sell them to members for zero profit, if others can't meet your needs. There are other rivets that are quite comparable as well like the ones SledToyz sells.
What rivets are you using?

They are rivits i get from the local hardware that used to be a yamaha dealer. They just say snowmobile rivits on them. Ive used them before without problems for non structural points. This time they seem to be snapping the post about half way instead of at the head of the rivet. Wasnt sure if my gun was bad (also hardware cheapo) or rivets.

You may want to check the jaws in your gun. They may be worn and need to be replaced. There are many different styles of rivets used on a typical snowmobile. There really isn't a one type fits all rivet. If they are not a quality steel/steel multigrip rivet, I would not use them for a tunnel on a sled. The fact that the mandrel is breaking up the shaft suggests that it is a lower quality rivet.

Thanks ding, ill check the gun to make sure its ok. Im not using these rivets for anything big but it still bothered me. If i need good one's ill get the oem ones or the ones from you. Thanks again, chris
They are cheap rivets... I have had this happen all the time on Hardware store cheapos.. Never have a problem with Yamaha Rivets.

give me a list of the lengths you need, I sell most every rivet you would use in a yamaha. three different lengths of small head and large head black. All steel stavex aircraft rivets.
If the mandrel is breaking above on a standard rivet, it usually means your using too long a grip range for the application.
Never use regular rivets on anything, they dont pull tight, dont hold and will loosen up fast.
Pm me, I will use you right, I love the project your doing.
