which other side did you go to?

i agree with most of that, most yamah's can really be woken up, and they've definatly made some fast sleds in there day (max-4, srx), but i dunno if i'd throw my money down on anything in there current lineup.

agreed on the flat handling

what i miss is the hp wars, every manufacturer having a big triple that could real in the 1320 with trap speeds over 100mph without difficulty in box stock form, many of the new 'fast sleds' aren't even capable of 100mph, or struggle to reach it.

for my own riding style i think sd has hit pretty close to the mark with the new machz and i think that any others in my shoes should bear it some consideration and take one out for a test ride. most other manufacturers sleds feel so flip flopey tho, i have a difficult time cornering comfortably on them.

Well, that's fine. You're spending your hard-earned money, you should buy and ride what you want.

That said, someone once told me this:

"There are a lot of sleds that'll go faster or corner tighter, but a Yamaha will always get you home."

That's good enuff for me.

Amen to that. Ive rode my Poo for 92 miles this weekend and I want my Phazer back!
If nothing else this has motivated me to tighten my belt and work hard to pay off this Poo so I can get back on a Yamaha as soon as possible!
I agree with major. A Yamaha might not always get you home first, but it'll always get you home!

17, are you saying the srx's/rx-1's are slow? My opinion is they have the best motors/clutching around! RX-1's tear the tracks off, and currently are the fastest things on the lake! I seriously doubt whatever you bought is faster than A stock srx, Rx-1. There is no stock 700 by any mfg. thats as fast as the SRX's. When it comes to bumpy trails your right, they could use alot of work. Did you buy A twin? personally I think twins vibrate to much. I rode my buds 800 mxz for about 50 miles, wow I couldn't even feel my arms, they were like noodles from the vibration. Not trying to make you mad just an opinion, thanks. keep us posted!

i agree about twins vibrating ,i rode my cousins polaris xc sp 700 and it also vibrates bad. as a matter of fact it vibtrates just idling and causes the front stablizer bar to rattle in the trailing arms. nothing is as smooth as a tripple. just my 2 cents. ,

Again, not looking for battle, but suggest everyone spends a good 300 miles on a few different sleds

I agree twins vibrate, but Y doesnt makea triple anymore... (My Y 97 twin came apart, but agree Y usually stay together)

so what sled did you jump on john? you never said what it was? dont get me wrong i have rode other brands, and i wish yamaha would just say F**K it and come out with a superior sled to turn all other brands ears to the snow, but my sx will be around alot longer than most 05's and why i can summon the anwser up in one word durability, may not be the most powerful but hey smak a tree at any speed and you going to get hurt,if you want to race the buy or build race sled, and i know you have done this with almost all of your sleds, john and all i can say if your happy with what you bought thats cool.i dont think there is a bad sled out there they all have the perks and they all have a purpose to suit each individual rider. but i would like a lot lighter sled out of blue 4 stroke or 2 stroke.peace v

red- I knew you would rspond. keep that red machine in mint shape upgrade the suspension, throw in some triple pipes and keep riding it until Y comes out with something new - Youve got one of the last great ones, - for now anyway. Whatever you do - do not replace thatsx with a viper.
Good luck, and stay safe. -

As for what am I riding now - doesnt really matter, because it is what I like.

Look at all the 04's, and determine what is the closest sled to a REAL snocross sled, and thats what I ride. I buy what works period- hence my ownership of Y for so many years.

I hope everyone has a great season.

So you like a snowcross sled. Why do you think the rest of us "amatuers" want to hear that you think we are wasting our money on anything blue? You like blue? Well, tell us how you kept yor old iron running and dont insult me for liking what I like. I dont come to this site to hear dudes like you saying we suck for not buying something that YOU can do 90 on when you hit the whoops on the trail. Chances are it will be someone like me with my family that is on the other side when you come over the top on your Doo or Poo or cat(or Y) totally out of control. Go elsewhere to bash me or I might be the guy that complains about unruly trail users and gets them closed. Have you ever had 200 spruce seedlings plowed under on your property when some hotshot passes a slower machine because his sled has 13 inches of travel and the (blue) other one was just touring? Well look out, you might need a tow and if your in Brutus MI we might just pass by if we knew who you were.

Archer...lighten up buddy! There are great people who own all kinds of sleds on this site, and their friends and family too.

Ride fast and sober, and we'll all get along just fine :)

Between family and regular riding friends we have all brands but I kind of agree with archer, it seems to me this thread was started just to stir the pot. Interesting that our brand is bashed but he won't tell us what his new ride is. Ride what you want, just be respectful on and off your sled and, if you like to argue, go discuss politics with your in-laws.

My point has been and will remain - keep an open mind. To think any mfg always has the best sled(car or truck) is questionable at best. If a vk540 meets your needs - god bless, but try some other brands version of the vk as well. My response about a "snocross" sled was because Red asked what I was riding, and NOT because everyone should own one.
VJ - Appreciate the filter, and hope you and the larger family are doing well.

Stay left, stay on marked trails, watch for families(like mine) and dont go 90 in the bumps...strive for 95??

I am not and will not bash Y. I started by pointing out +/-. I do think Y is behind, but if they werent I would admit that also. I would own a y again - NO QUESTION.
However if I was forced to spend 10k Today on a sled it couldnt be Y. Nobody has to agree. You dont need my apparoval and I dont need yours. I am happy I finally was open minded enough to try another brand, and was sharing that for those who may be on the fence.

John, i will back ya a little in 94 the y's to me were a cool looking sled but not the lightest, from 94-late 96 the magazines and the public constantly bash y about this model the pogostick, the brake system among other things, and for those 4 yrs were probably ranked 4th among the manufactures.but i will agree with you a car or sled,or brand of guitar it is really what suits the individual's tastes.y is not offering me a new sled i personally am willing to go into debt for at this time, and i am very happy with my sx's dependability,so here i sit on my redmater happy til something new from y come out.4 stroke or 2 stroke it has to be what i like, weather it is a cat, doo, yam, pol.it is what makes me happy and isnt that what life is all about. so lets all relax here and enjoy what we have and stop taking everything for granted. peace V
