I'm in the process of tearing down the srx that I just bought and when I split the cases I notices some "chatter" marks on the crank bearing races and in the case halves. I will post some pictures tonight to show what I mean.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future and is it even safe to put back together? I was only going to change the crank seals until I saw this going on.
I don't want to spend loads of money on this but I don't want it to come apart on me half way through next season.

Here are some pictures of what i'm talking about:

bearing chatter
first ?how many miles. from what i can see i wouldnt worry about the chatter marks just smooth up the case mateing surfaces with some scotchbrite pads then if there is any high spots dress with afine file wash and clean yamabond and bolt together and run it.

16 000 km on the bearings, I'm not sure if I should replace the 2 outers or not. They seem fine though.
well thats a few miles but i hear the guys on here talk about cranks lasting or not needin a rebuild till 15000 miles so i guess depends how much u want to spend but deffinately replace crank seals pistons and rings i would think ud be good to go but just my opinion

I was just going to replace the rings in the top end since the pistons were done about 3000 km ago, sounds like the bearings should be fine then. I may decide to replace the outer bearings but we'll see how much money I want to spend.

NO, DOWN INSIDE CASE WHERE CRANK SITS. 3:16 (yammie tony)
X2 on the red locktite, this is what we used to do on the old vmax 540's, make sure there is no oil in there and give it 24 hr to set up.

Sorry for being dumb but I'm still not seeing where you put the loctite. The only dowel pins on the center bearings lay between the case halves. There are no chatter marks on the 2 outer bearings where there are dowels at the bottom of the case. Sorry for sounding dumb, I have never run into this before.

ADD AC COUPLE DROPS TO THE HOLES IN YOUR CASE WHERE THE DOWEL PINS LOCK IN. LOOK AT YOUR FIRST PICTURE HERE. YOU CAN SEE THIS VERY CLEARLY. WE DID THIS WAY BEFORE THE 540 VMAX, I DID THIS TO ALL MY SRX,440,s. 3:16 (YAMMIE TONY)

I'm just curious but would you be able to hear this happening when the engine is running?

Yes, sorry. I did here a sort of knocking noise at a certain rpm but don't know if that was the bearings making the noise or not.

Well I don't know if I was hearing that, I always listen to then engine for various noises but I have not driven an srx before this so it could be a normal noise.
Well I'm not sure if I want to put this thing together like this, the bearings seem ok, the middle group of 3 bearings have a slight click to them when they spin fast but they are smooth.
