Is it just me or are we seeing alot more mid 90's sled rebuild/custom build projects on here more than ever? It seems that the economy has put the brakes on many of us upgrading to new/expensive sleds and we aren't going out on vacations as much so we are all staying home and building a dream sled for about half the price of a new one. What do you guys think?

I will be the first to say YEP! Can't afford a new one in cash, so build the one I got little by little as fun money appears. All I need now is a new tunnel...lightweight hood...D&R chaincase...ummm....UB big bore....maybe in 10 more years it will be done.

I'll agree 100%. My current project is a 96 Vmax 600 Mountain Max. I wasn't crazy about going back to the lesser suspensions, but at this price ($500 and needing minimal work, then customizing) my wife shouldn't complain too much. Yes, money is a major concern, especially after wrecking my 97 and paying hospital bills from the accident. I will still ride and I will even find a real vintage project from the 70's to tinker with.
Interesting thought: Ever notice that at the bar/restaurant where there are 15 new rider forward machines and 1 or 2 vintage machines parked; where does the crowd look first???

Yeah Mike your 100% right!!!
We got nice aggressive riding here, and the machines get put to the test on a daily basis. And from what I have noticed, The New machines are built like fighter planes, they handle great, but honestly they are not anywhere near as durable as the older sleds. I find Sleds like the Mountain Max are built like tanks, and have very little issue keeping up to the new sleds.
I think the Snowmobile Industry is alot like the Automotive industry, and It took a serious crash in quality. I have demo'd several sleds and I can say theres not one I would buy new right now. I would like to MOD out another 2002 Mountain Max.
for the cost of 1 newer Rev, I could buy a Fleet of Yamaha's and they would probly hold up better, in the long run.
