Forum seems pretty slow so I thought I start another safety thread. I just bought a Tek Vest Super Sport used for $150 shipped to me from eBay. I had my "brush with death" last December when I broke 8 ribs in an accident.

What other safety equipment do you all use? How many wear a Tek Vest? For those who wear a Tek Vest, will I now need a bigger jacket? A thinner one as the vest will help keep me warm?

Here's to a safe season for all this coming winter!

I've been wearing a safe jac for years. It's an older model and I should probably upgrade one of these years, but it still fits:) so I haven't. Wife and daughter both have Bee-Wears. While the initial investment is sort of high, they last a long time so when broke out the yearly investment is next to nothing. Plus saving a trip to the ER or even worse is worth the $$ to me.

As for the fit, we all wear the same size coats as always. They are warmer so you may be able to go to a lighter weight jacket. I typically wear just a shell unless it's really cold out. My two cents on vests:)

I wear a tek-vest (the Klim version because it was like $10 cheaper). I picked one up after a wreck myself. Although no trip to ER it was enough to scare me into looking for some protection. I wear the same size coat with mine. It does keep you a little warmer but it is fairly comfortable.

I wear a tek vest with the same size coat just took the liner out. There is about 5 of us in the group that wear vests I will not ride without one some use it for the extra support of their backs. Be safe out there.

X2 - I took the inner liner out of my Reima Warrior. It'll still fit with the liner in place but a little tight. My arms aren't as protected from the cold but they're the first things that get hot so it ends up being more comfortable. The liner stays in the trunk just in case but I've never had to pull it out.

I removed the shoulder pads but left the elbow pads in place in the jacket which helped reduce bulk around my neck and the jacket never gets zipped up all the way also helping to reduce bulkyness around my neck. In other words the top of the vest is exposed nearly all the time with no ill affects.

Adding 40 pounds to my center section over the years (I bought it in '97) didn't help with things riding up but unzipping the jacket at the bottom helps.
