What is the purpose of handlebar risers? I understand it makes it easier to stand and drive but is it a nightmare to use while sitting? Also does the boss seat do much to change rider geometry?
Handlebar risers make is easier to boondock since your "pulling" the sled over at a level that is easier for you. Think of it as trying to tip over say a garbage can, do you tip it over at the very bottom or up as high as you can?...the higher the handlebars "until a certain point" the easier it is to pull the sled over for carving, missing trees when climbing, and boondocking
You don't really notice it when sitting, since your arms are usually just straight out
A boss seat is higher than stock will be, so it essentially makes it easier to transition from sitting to standing. This is helpful more so in a mountain situtation rather than trail riding.

Whether or not handlebar risers will be comfortable or not while in the seated position depends on one's height (the taller you are, the greater arm span and thus longer arms) and the amount you raise the bars above the stock setting. Handlebar risers also have the cool factor going on, but work well in deep powder as well when you are carving and have the sled tipped over on one ski. I have not heard much about the boss seat however.

Agreed ^^^ the increase in bar height gives you more leverage / torque for carving.

also makes your hands colder on long rides even with hand guards
