My 99 SRX bit the dust. from what i cant tell the lower crank case has cracked leaking oil which tells me i need a new crankcase upper and lower pistons seals etc and other internals. i'm in the process of taking the sled apart but i'm stumped on the clutch. i need a puller but can't seem to track down anything specific to this sled year and make, has anyone yanked on these clutches off the primary with a puller made for another model? and /or how screwed am I tring to dismantle asses and rebuild the engine? is this do-able or do i part it out or look for an engine at discount?

That clutch was used on all sorts of models so it shouldn't be a big deal to find one. I know that all the sx/srx/sxr/viper/etc.. from 97 - 2005 use the same puller.
As for the motor, rebuild it. If you need a crank/case I happen to have one from my 99 sitting on the shelf. No issues and has fresh seals on the ends. Let me know if your interested and we can talk.

DO NOT use an aftermarket puller! Get a genuine Yamaha one. I made this mistake and the cheap aftermarket puller bent and ended up wrecking the threads in my crank. I've read about a couple other guys who had the same experience here.
The clutch might be pretty stubborn to take off, especially if it hasn't been off in years. I ended up tipping my sled on the side and filling the crank hole with water, teflon taped the threads of the puller and got it to pop off like that. Some guys use grease for this. Do a search and you can read up on this.
As for rebuilding your bottom end, if you have the tools and are experienced with mechanics you might want to try it but if not you might be better off hunting down a complete bottom end off a parted out sled.

EPI pullers rule Had one for years. Buddy had a cheap cat one that he bent up try to get his 900 clutch off. Picked him up an EPI one and it came off like butter.
