Hey guys, see pic below. Noticed a number of hariline cracks in the primary close to the center hub. Is this ok to run?
mines the same, will be running it this weekend on grass

Personally I would consider that a time bomb that at the least
may leave you stranded somewhere.

appears a bit more severe than the normal casting flaws.
tick, tick, tick?
tick, tick, tick?
I have some on my 97 somewhat like that, I put it back on and kept riding. But that sled doesn't see the miles it used to anymore.
Think I can just san them out?

GUYS TICK TICK TICK IS A GREAT ANSWER. THESE ARE CAUSED BY HEAT. HIGH CLUTCH TEMPS. THEY WILL GET WORSE. AND KNOW THEY CAN,T BE SANDED. THEY ACTUALLY MIGHT TO START TO SHOW AT THE BACK. I HAVE SEEN THEM 1/2 UP SHEAVE. TIME FOR NEW CLUTCH BUD. 3:16 (yammie tony)

for what it costs it's not worth taking a chance. i had a comet grenade on my 95 vmax600 and i was very lucky i didn't loose any toes becasue a good size chunk came right out the left foot well. change it
Guess I'm in the market for a new primary then. Who's got one.
Why not just replace the bad sheave instead of a complete new clutch?

YES SIR, I WOULD JUST REPLACE SHEAVE UNLESS THEIR ON BOTH SIDES. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Just one side, It's cheaper though just to buy a used clutch then it is a new sheave. Unless someone knows of some discount sheaves somewhere
What are the chances those are just casting marks. None of them are longer then 1/16 of an inch.
A couple of bucks

Heat Induced Stress Fractures. It's only a matter of time before it goes. Hopefully nobody is in the Line of Fire when it goes.

Lol... Damn, was worth a shot. Following some leads on a sheave. Who does balancing?
Been running mine like that for 2 yrs

some do get them balanced, i've never toughed any clutches even after sheaves have been replaced or rebuilt.

ANDY, NEVER SAID YOU CAN,T RUN IT. GO FOR IT LIKE YOU, BUT THERE IS A RISK OF THAT BLOWING APART. THOSE ARE CRACKS AND THEY WILL GET WORSE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I know of two people that broke hands by the clutch exploding. If there are stress/heat cracks run it at your own risk but I advise not too.
