At the end of last season my sled started backfiring and boging down and would shut off. I just had the carbs cleaned and it is now still doing it.
what else could my problem be?

On one of my previous sled's the kill switch was damaged and was shorting out, pretty much the same symptom's you explain except for the backfiring. Might also want to do a compression check and check for vaccum leak's.

Good info above for things to check^^^^, also when you say carbs cleaned, how were they cleaned. Were the floats checked and set right? Did all the small circuits and jets get cleaned out with cleaner and air? Were the top hat screens taken out and cleaned? Fuel screws set right? This still sounds like a carb problem, post back with some more info and go from their! Welcome to the site! You will love all the info and help you can get here. Chris

Sounds electrical... timing... likely the stator going away when it gets hot...
Start with an Ohms check on that.

Would it do this right away while it was still cold or just do it when it was warmed up good?

check for any frayed or half broken wires.Check the wiring harness for such issues.Check under the handle bar pad also.Something sounds like there is grounding going on somewhere.
i am with bluemonster on this. sounds like a rubthrough under the motor to me.

All good info!!! When you cleaned the carb did you pull the pilots and mains?

Also, check the TORS system. There are two wires running from the throttle to the carb rack. Take the two wires at the carbs and connect them together. Keep in mind this is only a temp fix as you have disabled the safety system.

Does it run that way all the time? Or does it run good for a while and then run like crap? Post as much info as you can.

I finally got a free day to work on the sled again. i did a compression test and i have 116 psi on one side and 117 psi on the other. from what i have read this is about normal. oh when i pulled the plugs for the compression test the spark plug on the side with the drive belt was blackend and had a strong gas and oil smell. so i'm geussing thats the side thats not firing right. I also tried the TORS trick with pluging it into it's self that had no change as well. It does this as soon as you start the machine.
I've check the wires as much as i can see and every thing looks good.
I tried to keep the carbs together as much as posible when i cleaned them i did remove the jets and set screws and counted and wrote down the number of turns for every thing. i had soaked it in a bath of cleaner for about 30 minutes then used air to blow it all off. i had air moving through all the passagess befor puting it back on.. this has worked for for me in the past on motorcycles.

Have you tried new plugs yet? Worth a try. Check your plugs caps for correct resistance also.
