Alright, got year one under my belt and I must say I had a blast with the SRX. Was "up north" this weekend at my parents place and peeked in on the sled and she was peacefully resting for the upcoming year.
I was reminded about two questions I thought about last year.
1) storage of spark plugs....both my brother in laws cats have a place under the hood to clip in spare plugs, I didn't find anything like that on my SRX. Has anyone done a mod on their sled for something like this? Right now I have an extra set sitting vacuum sealed in individual pouches in my rear storage compartment (reason for which is #2)
2) I always try and make sure the rear flap is sealed up however it never seemed to amaze me that it wouldn't stay sealed....end up with a rear storage compartment full of "fine snow" and water.....everything would be soaked. I found a "lock and lock" sealable container to keep the misc tools in to avoid the water/rust, but after a day of riding, my rope would be saturated....(I'd need to take it out to dry after the weekend otherwise I'd end up with a ice block covered rope) Maybe it's just the nature of the beast.....
Anyway, we are dipping below freezing for the first time this thursday here in MN......it's coming!!!!

Have you seen the spring loaded plug holders that rivet to any flat surface underhood? Most place them on the clutch cover.
My '01 came with a holder for three that was molded into the air box. They fit kind of loose so I zip tied them together to keep from rattling.

Dragonsm,
Go to any one of the TY advertisers here and just order plugs holders that you can mount right to your clutch cover if you want. I know alot of guys do that. They are spring loaded so the plugs cant fall out. Seem to work pretty well from what I've seen.
As for your back flap????Does it have the twist locks? I own a Viper so......
Mine tends to bow up in the middle of the flap, but not enough to soak the compartment. Maybe it's time for some lockable Tuperware???
Yeah, it's supposed to be in the mid to upper 30's on Thurs. night for us here. Winter is on the way. Couple more months

Srx should have clips on the side of the airbox to hold sparkplugs, if not there are holders out there that can be riveted wherever u want (normally on the belt cover). My old srx also let water in the rear, went to a viper seat and didn't have that problem as they have velcro and little locks, maybe its possible to integrate this style locks into an srx seat, they are cheap to get as they do break and need replacing once in a while.

I think the issue with your rear compartment is not from the flap at all. I found on a '98 that I had, the trunk area did not have a bottom like the '99 & up seats i seen. Maybe it was just mine, but the '98 seat I was using would always get wet back there. the '98's had a foam pad stuck to the tunnel, and the seat bolted down over that. The newer ones have molded bottoms. When i removed the seat from the '98, the tool box holder was riveted right to the tunnel.

I've got a clutch cover with 2 of the plug holders and a belt clip on it. You can have it if you want for the cost of the shipping. Or if you come up to the Brainerd swap meet on Saturday swing by and pick it up.

You can mess up the gap on the plugs if you are not careful. I would double check them just in case before heading out this season. My 2000 SRX also has the plug holder molded in to the airbox.Right now I have an extra set sitting vacuum sealed in individual pouches in my rear storage compartment (reason for which is #2)

I actually keep mine in the windshield bag. I have seen them come loose from the clutch cover holders, fell into the primary & f***ed up the sheave. Only seen it once, but.... Plus they don't get wet & crappy looking up in there.
simple questions on srx
what plug holders all i use mine for is to keep the cats and doos going never put one in my srx in the middle of the season no really

I also have never had to use em on my yammis, a new set each fall and there still there next fall. Them guys are lucky they are a common plug cause I still end up buying a bunch of em , lol. I still carry spares and they keep all the other brands runnin.

LOL - X2 - The plugs in my '01 are still the original plugs that were installed in Japan when new some 10 years and 4k miles ago.

Thanks for all the responses.....never did touch the plugs last year....the extras just rode around with me all year....(though they were champion brand plugs the prior owner bought before selling me the sled) and from what I read about the champions vs. the NGK's.....I kept them for that extreme case of if I needed one...(BUT I NEVER DID) I do like the idea of storing 1 or 2 in the windshield bag. (which I am going to add one with year for my wallet and phone)
Maybe the thoughts on the sparkplugs is me being paranoid....Not sure how many times we had to stop and change out plugs on my b-i-l's sleds....at least 3 separate times on the ZR580....and once on the ZR600.....then again, that could be the reason why their plugs are a LOT cheaper than the ngk's for the SRX....they'd go broke replacing them @ 5 bucks a plug for as much as they did! I tried to get a picture of our three sleds last year on the trail....(the 2 green one's had their hood's up at the time) but I was bearhugged from behind as I was about to take the picture.....would hate to tarnish that kitty image!!!
I'll have to look into the clips for the rear flap....don't have those..just the velcro, and I am guessing when the "loop" gets a little snow on it...the hooks don't like to hold near as much.
Mysledblows, thanks for the offer, unfortunately, I won't be up that way this weekend....big family weekend with my wife and daughter before I travel work work to Australia for 2 weeks on Monday. Once I get back in October, I'll look over the air cover closer and if it isn't there, I may take you up on that offer if it still available. I do need to get up that way sometime and hit up Thielen's meats.
