With GYT twin pipes they can be tuned to make a trail worthy 120HP.
The 97 have the triple exhaust ports and better intake... I put a set that was trail ported by FPP on my 96 bottom end for that reason.
The 600 twin had a midrange bog/lean characteristic, the 97 was a little better but still had it.
Also crank harmonics was known to chatter the main bearing inserts in the cases with high mileage.

'97 's also had ring and/or piston issues. problem was fixed in '98. and they do chatter the bearings, but i don't think this is a real issue ( depending on mileage of sled) If the rings/pistons let go, they will take out the cyl. used cyl.'s are getting hard to find, but a re-man one is around $225.00 ?? other than that, good sled and fairly responsive to mods.
