I was wondering if my dads rear shocks in his vmax are shot. When I push down on the rear bumper it goes down easy for about 4-6in. and then it gets stiff. When you let go it makes an air sucking sound and doesn't go competently up. Is the shock shot? :dunno:

Ahhh I would say so... unless the spring tension is adjusted super soft. But the air sucking noise kinda gives it away.

Thats what i was thinking. The spring tension is adjusted all the way stiff too. Thanks for the input sx700triple. Wouldn't viper rear shocks bolt right in?

The shocks on our '98 VMax XTCD appear to be rebuildable.

What year did they stop putting rebuilable shocks on the VMax?

Im not sure. My dad's 02 doesnt have them. They look like cheap shocks.

no problem bud. you wanna see blown shocks you should see what came out of my XL-V all the oil was ON the shock body... But those are 23 year old shocks that sat for 5 years un-touched and then abused terribly haha.

I'd call Pioneer Performance I believe they even have some rebuilt and revalved shocks they sell if any of those are not rebuildable.

Not sure what my dad wants to do right now. Not really a big deal for him since winter is two months away. Might have to call them and see what they have. Thanks SWEDE

You can tell by how the shock body looks. The non rebuildable shocks were normally black and were steel bodied. The others were aluminum.
