last year i was experiencing some shorting out periodically when i would apply the brake let off and it would catch again any ideas where to start looking for the short? Oh btw its a 01 700 mm.
Wire harness that goes under the seat would be the first place I would look
if its not there, i have also seen them rub through at the attachment points behind the air box by the steering hoop on the way to the plug and wiring under the seat and tank.

lost spark on a 01 srx last season, found rub thru on left side steering hoop wiring.
Sounds like it is related to the taillight brake light curcuit. you are going to have to check the harness along the handle bars, through the chassis and back to the taillight. The other thing that could be happening is a loose ground connnection as well. Check each grounding point assoicated with the taillight brake ligth.
